Reed and Sues marriage was on the rocks and this was a cliffhanger making it seem like it was probably over. It tried to portray how hard and hectic marriage can be in a super hero marriage.
Ofcourse like most silver age comics the last panel was just bait and had the usual over dramatic flair. Sue and Reed sorted it out like emotionally healthy adults and as far as word of god went during this story she never really cheated.
Their marriage is literally about them surviving through the worse and coming out stronger. Read the 50th year wedding anniversary issue as a retrospective show case of that.
