But they were kinda blatantly a, "We need the heroes to be underdogs" enemy. I feel like it would have been better to have a season or two where Earth is starting to unite the disparate Goua'uld human-colonies, perhaps drop the Area 51 denials in the public front and bring Earth to the stars officially.
Instead, we get a few seasons where, despite our heroes now having all of the toys on the playground, a new kid has shown up and basically broken them all.
On that front, SGG was shaping up to be what Voyager should have been, but I'm not sure it would have found solid footing if it had been allowed to continue.
And Atlantis was having serious issues as well. So, SG may have hit its peak and left before the burnout truly set in.
