You have several ways of doing this - you might have a big social media presence and hope to get randomly recruited, you might go to professional events and network in person, you might answer ads, etc.
Also, know what type of jobs you might be a good fit for. If your specialty is drawing cute anime girls and a company is hiring for a game about gay space marines, you're just going to waste everyone's time by applying.
Remote work is becoming more common, I know a good deal of indie companies don't mind hiring from out of state (though chances are you'll be a freelancer, not under salary).
