Never mind the fact that Mike is chasing someone he had 'puppy' love for in the fucking 3rd grade, that was the time where he and Sandy had common interests, such as playing and eating ice-cream... so you know, being a fucking kid.
But that's where it all goes wrong; they grew apart, Sandy has lost all interest in 'kiddie' stuff and went towards her modeling career, while Mike is clinging onto this hopeless relationship because he is desperate to believe that they'll be able to relive their 3rd grade memories.
The problem with Mike is that he's living in the past, while Sandy has moved on. They belong in two completely different worlds, and Mike is buried in denial if he can't see that.
