>>97705242One of the central points of a Mary Sue is that:
1- He/She doesn't lose (or when he does, it is made in a way to make him 'look good')
2- Everyone agrees with him/her
3- He/She is the center of attention and of the plot (genrally a 'chosen one').
The first arc of the manga is Boruto losing pathetically after trying to cheat in the chuunin exams, and having the rank of ninja taken from him.
If it wasn't for his friends, he would actually have lost in the FIRST challenge of the chuunin exams by falling into the pit, which is even worst.
When anyone treats Boruto especially, it's because of his father, as in "oh, you did the rasengan in a week? well, you're your father's son after all". He doesn't get direct praise. He is not relevant to the story, the plot happens regardless of him. He is just There instead of everything being about him. If anything, people are more likely to give him shit for being there. He is not special in any way (unless you count having a cursed seal, as many other characters in that universe, is being 'special'). All his friends in his team are better than him and have bested him multiple times.
And worst of all: he is part of a generation that is slowly dying; Ninjas. Tecnology is catching up to them, they will be replaced. He sees that, and all of whatever little achievment he had will disappear.
