Why does /co/ dislike bubbleline? Is it bad? What can be done to make bubbleline an enjoyable and well written relationship?

For me personally it was that their original pitch was that they were best friends/rivals until they got into a fight and broke it off, until Finn would get the two of them to hang out and be buddies again. Then came the episode. The one with the Door lord (Most original idea for a villain i've seen yet) and "Im just your problem~" and suddenly that idea of them being "just friends" Changed into "Just more than friends"

Then the shipping happens, then the writers casually drop in a detail that was meant as a joke that the two dated at one point. The pin drops, everyone is silent. THEN IMMEDIATELY A TIDAL WAVE OF FAN ART, FANFICTION, COSPLAY, ETC. RAVAGE THE NET!

It stopped being two former friends making up for lost time, and more about "lets see how gay we can make these two act together in a scene"

Idk about the rest of you anons. But I wish that joke the writers made wasnt taken so seriously.

I disagree. A show lasting nine season is going to change any two characters regardless of how well written it was, and, look, I LOVE Adventure Time but I would not hail it as a show being especially well written enough to have had a chance at keeping consistent characters over however many years.

Bubblegum and Marceline needed some dynamic changes to their characters and values, and this didn't make anything worse for the characters that wasn't already going to be worse by the end of the show's run. At least they got a layer of depth to their relationship.

How so? With the Uncle Gumbald origins, PB has gotten way more interesting. Hunson's visit was just kind of boring though, generic "lame dad proves to love his kid" kind of thing. And them being lesbians just expands on their relationships, seeing how both of them essentially lived on their own for a long period of time and somehow met each other to have something. I doubt we'll get another flashback episode any time soon though.

Low-hanging fruit. It's a forced, cheap tactic the authors employ only to appease a vocal minority that shows they ran out of ideas when their series popularity starts to wane.

Not to mention the horrors it's done for characterization. They sacrificed every likeable quality about Marceline to turn her into a glorified emotional handbag. Remember the last time Marceline could share a scene with anyone who isn't Simon or PB, and actually have fun for that matter? Me neither.

Honestly we're better off just sweeping it under the rug and rebooting AT at this point.

The show is almost done, anon. The popularity has waned a lot too, even though I liked it pretty consistently, except for the blackhole of season 5-6. Give it 10-15 years and the nostalgia for it will force a reboot.

Ive never seen a thing become such a cultural phenomenon and then disapear so quickly. Its like everyone collectively realized it was getting bad and jumped ship. Like they know they're fans a filled with shipping and yurifags so instead of trying to write a half decent romance/drama to get them together they just pussyfoot around the subject going "WILL THEY? THEY JUST MIIIGHT!" but don't have the actual guts to do it yet seemingly pat themselves on the back for merely humoring the thought.

It's just like Korra's relationship. They don't give a shit but they know their audience does so they put the most minimal effort and expect to be praised for it.

And the sad part is they do because the fans have no standards and are so hungry for this shit they'll eat up any shit stained scraps that are thrown at them.
