That, and the thought of it possibly getting so popular regardless of quality that it'll be ripe for pickings by execs hoping to repeat the success stories of We Bare Bears, SvTFoE and ONE's works...or at least that's what I cynically thought of anyway. Zack needed a reason for Hijack to expose his presence (since it would be pretty easy for him to slip in and do his job completely undetected, like he says). If Zack had Hijack say she was his mom at the end of the last page it would be a much better hook and much less annoying. “Dr. Zarei is something important to Hijack” vs “Dr. Zarei can make spirits?” It’s a pretty intriguing twist though, finally learning more about how spirits are made.

Spirits play by their own rules. I wouldn't have thought that something like Hijack could happen because of how he doesn't take psychic damage when he's possessing you. Killing someone through an established link seems way more probable.
