Most of these types of persons have an agenda for the two things, and the irony that none of them realize is that the two concepts are opposite on their very root.
If everyone is truly the same (equal) there's no diversity nor there shouldn't be a need to enforce it through "positive discrimination" and the like. If there's diversity then it means there are differences between a certain set of groups of people, with discerning traits, therefore implying that they're not equal, but different (which doesn't necessarily have to be a bad thing). You just cannot have both extremes at the same time.
To this day it still amazes me that what seems to be like ~50% of the population demands for both things to be met in the same civilization.
Yes yes, I'm aware that the most insane ones have reduced the "diversity" word to "everyone is brown", but still damn it all.
