>>96993165I'm not hating on it because it's about Mexicans. I'm hating on it because the trailer showed boy acting out the very hackneyed cliche that boys think girls are gross. It's a very old-fashioned American idea, one that isn't true anymore, and according to
>>96993009 and
>>96993051, is apparently not true in Mexico, either.
And there are some gender tropes that I can't stand, that just need to die. The trailer for Inside Out turned off from seeing that film for that reason, too.
But with that being said, the fact that the film is so very, very Mexican doesn't help things. I've been to Mexico before, Anon, and I loved the food there and even the music. But there are some aspects of Mexican culture that are just truly bizarre and alien to America, such as your aesthetic (pic related). We don't get your fixation with skulls and roses and little circular bead patterns; there's no close analogue to this in American (or European) culture, not even among Native Americans.
And while your wrestlers and your tattoo artists all seem to cherish this uniquely Mexican "look", some people are put off by it. I'm one of them! And if a cartoon doesn't LOOK appealing to me, chances are, I'm not going to waste my precious time on it, no matter how emotionally gripping the story may be.
