Marco literally just bonded with some chick because he was feeling vulnerable and wanted to feel liked. It's a pretty common tween thing and it doesn't have to mean that starco isn't and always will be endgame. If the new ship is rigged for sail, it's going to be a few more episodes of buildup. At most it means we will see some more kellco dating and double-date relationship drama in the future.

Completely correct on the whole dimensional scissors thing (best ending is solo adult marco ending in every universe, where he skips from dimension to dimension committing random acts of heroism while infinitely expanding his harem)

The problem is it makes zero sense that Marco would want to do that. There's literally only one thing on Earth that he even cared that much about, and at no point in the past had he ever prioritized his relationship with Jackie over Star. The whole thing was a poorly-written contrivance to keep Marco separated from Star, because if they were still hanging out uninterrupted there'd be less than zero chance of TomStar happening. Thus, it's contrived bullshit that happened TO SET UP MORE CONTRIVED BULLSHIT.

Exactly, it's bullshit and a complete waste of the audience's time. Everybody knows it's going nowhere and it's not as if this was the best or easiest way to get Marco to realize his feelings for Star. That was obviously going to happen anyway, so why not just have it be something that happens gradually over the course of the season instead of wasting entire episodes on a doomed ship that won't even last through the season? Those are episodes that could've instead been devoted to the actual plot, like Star's efforts to end mistreatment of monsters (ie having a non-joke episode with her petition instead of Death Peck being the only time it comes up) or more about Eclipsa.

It makes sense that the Christmas/Halloween episodes are paired with Spider with a Top Hat filler stuff, because they're preparing for the fact that either some countries won't dub them or Disney will only air them in certain months or both.

So they literally can't have anything essential to plot/lore/characters/the universe at all, because there's a good chance the entire half-hour might just be skipped over in reruns. That can raise the question of why they do real-world holiday episodes at all then instead of just stuff like Mewnipendence Day, but there was definitely a fan demand for that kind of thing during the first season.

Also I'm just trying to sort out Disney's logic here, not saying what they should be doing. They considered Hungry Larry and Stump Day specifically holiday-related enough that the crew knew to pair them with filler.

Anyone can use the wand, not to mention he has willpower and imagination. Ludo could originally only use the wand in a state of absolute anger, but even he became a Levitato master. What I find annoying is that apparently there were a couple of months between the end of BFM and Marco going back to Earth that just weren't shown. Why are we having Marco living on Mewni now being treated like it's a new thing for him, when he had already spent the whole summer there? Why couldn't THAT have been when these episodes took place, so we could've skipped the whole forced artificial drama of "Star & Marco get separated even though they'll be reunited 2 fucking episodes later"?

I'll give you point 2. It would've been incredibly sweet to have Marco actually come to the realization naturally, even self surprised by it rather than to have it foisted onto him via external forces. But point 1 was thread that needed to be resolved. Failure to do so would paint Marco as a playboy, two-time, and general scumbag. Yeah, shit coulda been better, and ya, it felt like there were some low blows just for the sake of riling up the fans. But I don't think it was all that bad.

Yeah, it was weird that it seemed like the freedom of the whole summer could've been an easy excuse for why Marco's on Mewni, but instead it just happened mostly offscreen with just a few episodes at the very beginning set then.

I think just a few lines at the beginning of Scent of a Hoodie could have helped: Marco saying he has to spend some time back home after being away so long, Star saying she feels she wants or needs to stay on Mewni after all that went on. At least then the audience wouldn't be left asking questions.

And yeah, all that CAN be assumed, and I assume that's what the situation's supposed to be anyway. But for something that major we shouldn't have to, or they should at least consider that not every viewer is some anon on /co/ just assuming things.

Not entirely wrong, but in Moon's case, she couldn't dip down for years as a Queen, and she is kind of considered a studious prodigy or magic, being on the MHC and all. It wouldn't be surprising to me if some Queens never learned how to use magic without the wand. My point is that the wand has another use. It's a direct channel to the source of all magic, and acts as the Kingdom's military force, all on it's own. The only reason they were able to conquer land in the first place is the OP buff spells the first queen gave to the soldiers, and we saw how well the knights handled rats without The Wand's help.

She was actually semi-guided by hand by creators in that she somehow knew the darkest spell would still work to the effect of taking off one of Toffee's fingers BUT not allowing it to regenerate.

As viewers WE can see that the spell doesn't just literally kill a guy but instead traps his heart in the wand so it can't be replaced, but she shouldn't have known that her first time using it. It feels like a case of the writers/audience knowing the rules of the bigger story but not actually considering if the characters should know them too.

It'd actually make more sense if she'd just straight-up missed or swerved her aim away by reflex, but she deliberately moved it and going by one of the boarders knew it'd work out exactly as it did.

Something like Sophomore Slump could've happened without the bullshit of Marco severing all contact with Star even though he had no reason to. Or for that matter they could've had had the Jarco breakup happen during the span between Marco extreme depression about Star's departure in "Return to Mewni" (something that should've been a bit of a clue to Jackie in the first place) and and his going to Mewni to check on her in "Marco and the King". I think the reason Moon keeps Star in the dark about some of this stuff is that she thinks if she entrusts Star with sensitive info, the first thing Star will do with it is something stupid. Look at what happened when Star first got the wand (probably the first day she had it too.)

The question is whether the wand naturally has that level of malicious influence on anyone who picks it up. Think of the forbidden chapter, Marco turned crazy evil reading it, Star was unaffected. Maybe she is also immune to any evil possession of the wand as well.

Likewise when casting the All-seeing Eye spell Marco seemed a bit... eviler? than usual. The guidebook says the wand contains the experiences of everyone who uses it, I wonder if Eclipsa has something to do with that.

WHY does Marco have to choose one over the other? Marco has a pair of scissors that are rightfully his and he knows how to use them. If Marrco thought Mewni was so great he should be bringing his friends over to Mewni on his own adventures. He should have been taking Jackie on dates to the Bounce Lounge, Crystal Arcade, and Lava Lake Beach.
His mom's croissant analogy makes no sense because of how easy Marco can zip back and forth between Mewni and Earth. Its more like having France localized entirely within your kitchen.

Its all in Star's head, like most teenagers who think their parents just hate them and dont care about them at all.
After the wand blows up Star thinks that Moon is angry at her when Moon just hugs her and is happy her daughter is okay.
Every other scene between Moon and Star from I think Song Day and onward had Star thinking she dissapointed her mother when Moon is actually either proud of or happy for her.
Even earlier in the show Star just lies to Moon hoping she doesnt get scolded but Moon never actually says anything and trusts Star.

Maybe edgelord isn't the right word, but it was like they were playing him as more of a standard cartoon villain with a one-liner for every appearance. It's not even that I'm saying that was out of character, but when he only gets like 3/4 lines an episode and at least one of them is guaranteed him being intelligent, nihilistic, and with a wicked sense of humor, it stands out more than it would have in S1.

Not that I'm aware of. I should really get the DVDs, I kept telling myself to buy them for years now.
As for StarVs, hard to say really. Usually the music is more in the background but works really well sometimes. The new outro is an odd choice if you ask me, it has a magical girl vibe. Not bad, just.. weird.

That's the problem, the writers are incredibly inconsistent about actually acknowledging the dimensional scissors. They the device that makes the entire show possible, but sometimes they're just ignored to make individual episodes possible.
