after mass media, people tended to pick and choose from those legends to find strengths and weaknesses they liked as opposed to picking one historic version and sticking with it
this goes back to when novels were the new hotness
you can find things in Dracula and even older stories that mix and match legends from places ranging from Transylvania to Moldova to Belarus to Bohemia
it stepped up when movies were invented
nowadays a vampire can basically be anything, partly because of this early disorganization and later pick-and-choose attitude
AFAIK though, the sunlight thing is a historical weakness, and it makes sense-- having them as creatures of the night increases their spook factor, and darkness makes it easier to explain why you don't see them so much, or indeed to think the weird thing you saw was a vampire instead of a bear or just some guy who couldn't sleep
