>>96547008I think they didn't use him as much as they could have in 2 and 3, but I don't have a problem with the way he was used or how he died. The Eclipsa stuff being linked to his death was kind of easy, but it wouldn't have seemed so sudden if those four episodes had aired separately.
I don't even mean more appearances though; just he could have had more dialogue those times he actually showed up. It's weird that despite the many ways other things improved after Season 1, they never really used Toffee again as well as they did that season except in his last appearance.
Seems like once the show got more consistently dramatic and emotional, they could never really pull off that "serious villain in dumb lighthearted cartoon" effect as effectively as before. Arguably the episodes just implying his existence like Ludo in the Wild and Into the Wand worked better than most of his later speaking appearances.
