It's structurally incompetent, the script is complete junk. It feels like what Goyer's version of Batman Begins would have been if Nolan wasn't around to provide actual artistic insight.

But it looks nice and despite Snyder's Lucas-level inability to direct actors he managed to find enough raw talent that they could mostly direct themselves.

It averages out to meh.

My only real problem with this movie is Jonathan Kent. They took the man who taught fucking SUPERMAN the concepts of truth, justice, and the American way, and turned him into a man who taught Superman that helping people has a cost and that he should prioritize keeping himself hidden over saving children (or even his own family) from dying.

Other than that the movie is god-tier.

The whole arc of Clark caring about what people think of him in MOS in BvS is super unnecessary. Just have him be good because he wants to be good.

Captain America did it and Captain America is probably 10 times harder to make work than Superman who's already established as a worldwide hero.

But that never really happened.
Closest would be the oil truck but it's clear as day he didn't realize the danger it posed or he would not have looked back up in horror at the explosion. He was ether too focused on Zod (rightfully so as to make sure Zod didn't start blitz attacking civilians as promised) or he thought it would just come to a stop relatively harmlessly against the wall.

With the World Engine destroying shit. He is at the airbase forming a plan to stop it & then on the other side of the planet stopping it.

With the crashing of the scout ship, It banked downward immediately after he blasted the controls (which he had no choice in doing), there was no time to try and divert it.

The point is that Jonathan Kent taught him to consider the big picture, that his actions have consequences, but that its ultimately up to himself to decide who he wants to be. And, partly because he had a role model like Jonathan who risked his life to save a dog, he chose to do good because he wants to do good--instead of every other version where he does good because he is told he should by either Jor-El or the kents.

But no one ever says that ever. Kent says "maybe" to whether he should have saved the kids and reveal himself to them. That is not telling him to do nothing, its just telling him to consider the bigger picture. Even in the tornado scene he isnt advocating to do nothing--he himself goes to save a dog--he just realizes that for him, keep Clark's secret a little longer is more important than his own life, that is the choice he makes. He never advocates or preaches inaction in anyway.

couldnt be farther from the truth. He is just shy, as early years Superman always is. Look at any interpetation of Superman's first years being a hero and he is always shy of the public. But when he opens up to people, usually as Clark Kent or in private as Superman (like the interview scene with Lois in MoS, he is very charasmatic.

Jonathan Kent didn't want Clark to save him cause he was scared of what would happen if people found out he had superpowers. I still like original Superman movie of Jonathan dying of a heart attack on the farm. They should have filmed something like that for MoS.

honestly my biggest problem with the first Superman movie is that Clark has almost 0 agency. He is led to Jor-El by a glowing rock. He is told to be Superman by Jor-El and hidden from humanity. He is entirely reactive to both Lois and Luthor.

That being said, I do enjoy everything else about the movie.

I was talking about how DCEU fags like you equate Jonathan saving a dog to Clark saving a "lesser being" like a human. Which IS a betrayal because Clark doesn't put himself above people so equating humans to dogs is a false equivalency.

I hate this movie, but I wish I didn't. They did a lot of cool stuff. They have probably the coolest visual depiction of super speed ever done, and the final fight with Zod is one of the best superhero fight scenes I've seen.
But for everything they got right, they got something wrong, and the things they got wrong were to a much worse degree than what they got right.

Well, immediately following the scene, we have Clark say 'I let my father die because he felt the world wasn't ready'. So it could be just that;
Or it could be 'to show Clark he can't save everyone". Which, I'll be the first to say, would also have been a failure.
Either way, I don't buy it's to inspire Clark to be Superman. If anything it's the opposite. Specifically because we have Superman tell us what he got from that moment right after it happens, since Goyer can't do subtlety.

You're assuming the purpose because it suits your narrative. Your interpretation is valid (maybe) but hardly the only one.
It's equally valid a premise that Clark just *is* Superman and they never really explore what motivates him to do so; seeing as how he was doing it at age 11 without Jonathan needing to do anything.

The scene that exhibits this the strongest is the lead up to the Smallville fight. Superman comes flying in screaming, grabs Zod, plows him through some grain silos, starts punching him in the face repeatedly while saying "You think you can threaten my mother!?", then through a 7-11. While leaving his mother behind with two other Kryptonians and their spaceship. This was an act of attacking Zod, more than it was an act of defending his mother.
