The character redesigns were godawful. In trying to make them cuter and "better," it seemed to me they'd erased everything endearing about them, and replaced them with generic fast-food-commercial-grade cliche. And those creepy new eyes were some uncanny-valley dead-looking shit. (I'm one of the lucky ones who gets paid to do /co/ stuff, and I have views. VIEWS, goddammit!)
The countertop was now a whole town. But... still on the countertop. The fuck? Are they in a kitchen or in a town? Either would work, so pick one. Both isn't silly, it's stupid.
The characters were wrong. The personalities were way off. They weren't the same "people" at all.
And the writing SUCKED. The writing was what really sold the videos for me back in the day, and why I happily bought them for the little ones and even watched along now and then. It was witty as hell, and the songs were seriously top-notch. There was some real talent and craft there. Even when it started to go downhill after their financial troubles, the writing still hadn't suffered too terribly. But this time around, there wasn't a shred of charm to it. It wasn't even try-hard, just bland.
A franchise that used to be genuinely entertaining and a joy to see, was now literally unwatchable.
I hope it got better, but I never watched it again.
