Rumored spoilers.

"Han Solo" is an alias. He was a street orphan from planet Corellia who is caught stealing cargo by Woody Harrelson's character, Beckett, a veteran smuggler. He's impressed by young Han's skill and takes him under his wing.

Han and Lando Calrissian are rival smugglers for the Lacard crime syndicate, smuggling spice and other materials past Imperial blockades through the Kessel field, which is very dangerous and filled with obstacles. Lando has a pristine, fully operational Millennium Falcon. Han and Beckett have a shitty ship called "Lightspeed Thunder" (Everyone calls it "Lightspeed Blunder").

Early on, Han and Beckett rescue Chewbacca, who's a prisoner of war, and he joins the crew. Ryn Lacard, their boss, is pissed because he wants to remain neutral on the Galactic Civil War.

Thandie Newton's character, Nyssa, is Lacard's power-hungry enforcer. She murders Ryn and plans to bomb an assembly between the leaders of the Lacard crime syndicate so she can seize power. She's also working with the Empire and captures Han and Beckett to frame them for the murders, but Han and Chewie escape and join forces with a reluctant Lando to rescue Beckett and stop Nyssa.

Emilia Clarke's character, Kira, is Beckett's estranged daughter whom Han calls for help. They have past history. She's a sort of intergalactic Robin Hood who steals from the Empire to help the oppressed people, but is not a rebel. Her crew includes Phoebe Waller-Bridge's Selu and Warwick Davis' Stick.

Paul Bettany's character, Cain, is a bounty hunter hired by Nyssa to hunt down the heroes. He was previously played by Michael K. Williams as a motion-capture alien, but was reworked as a human. He has his own unbeatable warship, called "Scourge of the Stars".

There's a minor subplot about a young Imperial officer played by Ian Kenny, S'aal, who forms a secret alliance with Nyssa so he can be credited for recruiting the Lacard crime syndicate to their side, even though Darth Vader hates mobsters.

The movie is very comedic. A running gag is that Han comes up with outlandish stories about himself and they all blow up in his face, like saying he dumped Kira when they actually never dated and she turned him down. The cause of the issues between the old directors and the studio is that there was so much of Han making an ass of himself that they felt it made the character too much of a joke. There's a heartfelt scene where he gives his in-universe reason for lying. Basically, abandonment issues.

Lots of callbacks, as expected. Han's blaster comes from Beckett, who also teaches him to "always shoot first" after being injured in a standoff with Caine. Kira is the one that says "don't get cocky, kid", and "never tell me the odds" is born from Han trying to make the Kessel Run in less than 12 parsecs to reach the assembly in time while Cain is on their tail. Han also tells Lando that he has a "soft spot for princesses" due to Kira's idealism.

Han also crosses paths with Darth Vader during Chewbacca's rescue and hopes he'll never "see the guy again".

In the end, Beckett sacrifices himself to prevent the bombing, Nyssa and Cain are killed, S'aal is punished by Vader, the Lacard crime syndicate undone, the Thunder is destroyed and the Falcon heavily damaged in the Kessel Run. Kira parts with Han on good terms, but they don't even kiss. Nobody believes Han made the Kessel even though it's true.

Movie ends with Lando inviting Han to a small business venture in Bespin, but Han refuses, claiming the real money is with Jabba the Hut in Tattoine, where he'll have "peace and quiet for the rest of his life". Before Lando leaves, Han challenges him to a card game (the one in which he'll win the Falcon).

It already uses the outdated "Han Solo isn't his real name" rumor and fails to take into account that Jabba's role was expanded when Ron Howard came in, so if any part of it's real it's likely outdated.

Rebels is mostly terrible, though. It's got like four good episodes each season and two of them are usually the premier and finale. For that matter, the EU was mostly fine. Hell, only stuff I didn't really like were the Je'daii.

Honestly, if the idea is that she's from some noble family that also happens to produce powerful Force wielders, Dooku's kind of the only choice. If it was Leia, you'd think that would've come up.

I mean more than likely she'll be from some OC family, assuming we're not just misreading this and Driver wasn't just using the word in some bizarre context.

Or from comic to cartoon? What are the boundaries here? There's a lot of ground to cover and a vast interweaving network of connections. Lucasfilm have said the opposite. They did an interview on the main Star Wars youtube channel shortly after Rogue One confirming that stuff like that was in fact, just the beginning of their plans for stronger continuity.

I'm certain i've missed some, will reply to this post with more if I remember. I do remember that Brendol Hux and the idea about stormtroopers born and raised to serve the first order, actually first got mentioned in Servants of the Empire, way ahead of TFA.

The Journal of the Whills is an old concept only canonicaly referred to in the Novels so far, which is suspected to play a part in TLJ.

Oh and the force tree idea, previously shown in Shattered Empire and TCW.

There was also the leaks and rumors about the origins/manifestations of the force, suggesting Rey is the Light or some shit. It's actually rooted in canon lore from Mortis in TCW, arguably the "biggest" non-movie lore there is, and entirely possible a factor in the upcoming movies.

That's a lot easier then. However I think we should restrict it further, away from explicit promo content for the movies. For example, in the Journey to the Force Awakens junior novels, there are a lot of blatant pre-references that technically appear in the movie, but only barely, as a background extra, for example Sarco Plank and Bobajo. It would only be fair to count less directly relevant content appearing later, for example, there's a First Order shuttle that recently appeared in the Poe Dameron comics that has been seen in the TLJ trailer, but Poe Dameron started up in 2015 so it can hardly be said to be nothing more than a hype machine.

And the Father was all asking Anakin to stay and shit, to maintain the balance. How would that even work, giving Anakin the choice to stay and do that if it was all just a metaphorical vision? Why even have Ahsoka and Obi-Wan there at all? Vader wasn't really there in Luke's vision.

It was strange shit to be sure though, I don't think anybody has a definitive answer. Even Filoni.

I don't really think the powers you mentioned are different. Kylo holds people in place and could likely further move them if he wanted. Or maybe he isn't as strong as Anakin to do that.

In the battle I linked, Anakin does appear to grab and hold Bariss with her unable to control her own movement, even holding her completely frozen still in the air for a moment, before pushing her back.

I am currently marathonning TCW for the 4th (or 5th?) time with friends.

Although technically its a full-saga marathon. We watched 1 and 2 already, and will watch 3 right after TCW for maximum pottery and emotional gutpunch.

I'm debating on whether Rebels is important enough to warrant showing before Rogue One, but stuff like Thrawn and Maul and Ahsoka and Saw makes me think I absolutely should, as long as it takes, it would be the full experience.

I aim to marathon the series once a year for the rest of my life. I've already watched some of the movies dozens of times without getting bored, so I am sure once a year will be fine.

I don't remember for sure.

I remember being taken to see TPM and not remembering a thing. (Might have fallen asleep. Not hating the movie though, I love it)

Then I remember my mom's boyfriend showing the movies as they aired on tv and I was just entranced by the trench run scene, it was just magical.

Then I got Jedi Knight: Jedi Outcast on PC which got me into the vidya, and I saw ROTS in theatre when I was 10 and to this day it is still the movie powerful and impactful and incredible experience Star Wars has given me. The shit Lucas dared to do in that movie is just fascinating to me.

You know, I really can see why the PT caused an irreparable rift in the fanbase.
They can be almost medatative or trancelike in tone, definitely lower in energy than the OT in some ways. (of course, there are high energy stretches, especially in RotS).

I love the PT, but they are not at all made to appeal to OT fanatics. They are made by a much older man playing an old tune he wrote with 20 years of life between him and the guy who wrote that song.

(Image only related in that it's prequel era. TCW is more of a blend of the OT and OT styles).

You know what really grinds my gears?
That TFA felt smaller scale than a 22 minute kids show. (Talking about Rebels. TCW transcends the kid's show label. I love Rebels too though.)

I could ramble for hours about not only how much I feel went wrong with TFA, but the mystery of WHY it went wrong.

It went backwards. Every piece of SW kept getting bigger until TFA. Hell, compared to ANH, RotJ was prequel level dense.

Watching in the /swco/ stream with 300 people was fucking phenomenal, it was like an internet movie theatre. Spinsabers couldn't even drag the episode down, an absolute masterpiece. If Filoni never tops it, I wont mind. It was his climactic staple on the series, just as significant to the 2008 generation of fans, as ROTS was to the 2000's and ROTJ to the originalfags.

I don't like it and I don't like what they did to Ahsoka's character. She should never have rejoined the jedi after she left and she shouldn't have been part of the rebellion. Her arc ended with her leaving that life and these developments just cancel that. Its like with Sabine getting the darksaber and then just giving to Bo Katan, that arc was pointless. Or killing Darth Maul just to bring him back over and over again. They need to stop showing us storylines that don't amount to anything.

Yes, that seems to have been the point. The pacing, tone and use of color and lighting are indeed of a meditative quality. Juxtapose that against a lot of the rash and rush decisions made on the part of the protagonists and the format makes sense. Everyone's trying to move quickly in otherwise slow movies. It's in the dialogue, too.

>"We haven't much time"

>"This will all be over in no time"

And so on. It all makes sense in context of the situation and world in the view of the protags, but when you contrast that behavior against the fact that the events of the movies are the culmination of the Sith having had literally one thousand years of planning ahead of the Jedi, it's all just so sobering. The pacing and tone are unfortunate for fans who are used to the more even pace of the Original Trilogy, but it's in the Prequels for good reason.

ESB AT-ATs are 22.5 meters, AT-ACTs are 31.85 meters.

Aside from >>9641059's points, the AT-ACT size comes at the cost of it's structural stability - it needs tensor fields to hold the joints (already one of the AT-AT's big weak spots) together so the legs don't collapse under the heavy weight. Not a problem if you're only using it as a glorified 18-wheeler, but ion weapons means it's not a quality you want on your front line walker.

I'm not sure if that's so true anymore. EU used to show a massive power difference between airspeeders and starfighters (even if similarly sized), but nucanon seems to show the AT-AT just as resistant to starfighter lasers, and hell, one even managed to tank torpedoes from a freighter in Rebels, which would presumably be on a magnitude higher in power.

They didn't. All their fighters had different roles and mission types. ARC-170s are long-range reconnaissance craft. Y-Wings are assault fighters and bombers while V-19s, Z-95s act as multi-purpose fighters. The V-Wing was a pure interceptor. But what did change throughout the war was the GAR beginning to adopt the Confederate doctrine of using capital ships with massive guns and swarm fighters. The irony is the Rebellion used Republic tactics versus the Empire but they won with it learning the lessons of the Clone War.

They're not prototypes, they're just an additional model. Keep in mind, B-wings and A-wings are widespread well before ANH as well.

We see a grand total of, at most, 20 different TIE fighters in the OT before the first TIE Interceptor appears in ROTJ. It's not hard to imagine there are some elsewhere out there just because they were only invented in 1983.

Overrated? Yes. There's not a single argument you can make against this, it has been the fucking holy grail of "I stopped caring about Star Wars in 2008 but will still shit on everything recent and pretend I am keeping up with things"-fags since it released. You can't mention it on any website on the entire internet without genddyfags piping in to inform everybody with his completely unheard-of hypothesis about how Lucas ruined Grievous.

Garbage? Nah. I was being harsh on it. While it is ridiculous and stupid at points (Yes, this includes Greivous, and the hundreds of capital ships & LAAT's often seen on one screen, Windu's episodes, ect) it also did have some pretty well choreographed and exciting content that made it very enjoyable to me as a kid. I completely understand why people like it, although I will never ever buy into the "ITS BETTER THAN TCW!!!" delusion.

Well I grew up on the EU. I lean heavily towards Canon, but I poured my fucking life into the EU for at least a decade, and I can say that in the past 4 years it HAS been mostly EUfags fuelling the shitposting arguments. People salty that "their Star Wars" was "taken away" and that Disney is just soullessly rehashing, and blah blah blah.

We've had literally countless cases of people coming into this very thread complaining about books, comics, episodes, only to be proven that they'd never even bothered to read it for themselves once pressed into discussion. And this is a thread centred around Rebels, try to discuss Star Wars anywhere else and you're met with an onslaught of hate and vitriol. OTfags, EUfags, but sadly the part that hurts the most is that a lot of the canon hate is actually coming from TCWfags too.

TCW is my favourite piece of Star Wars media ever, and despite some surface-level downgrades in quality and storytelling, most of canon is actually using that show as a platform to jump from, but lots of TCWfags jumped ship after TFA and thats upsetting to me because I constantly feel like I am having to say shit like "yeah I know that was awesome, but look at how Rebels has managed to...".

Most of the "anti-EU hate" is defensive from what I have seen. How could it be otherwise, most people didn't magically only start reading books and comics in 2014, OBVIOUSLY there is a huge overlap of people who enjoyed the EU who still enjoy Canon. It's when morons show up saying "hurr spinsabers" and "look, chewie is holding a lightsaber" and "TFA means Disney just wants all the movies to be ESS JAY DUBBAYEW", obviously people will retaliate by pointing out the dumbest EU shit. I know that when I make fun of the EU, I do it solely to defend against morons trying to take cheap shots at canon. If people were to actually discuss the EU with me civilly, I will do what I have always done and discuss it peacefully, talking about all the things I loved.

This is the cruelest truth out there. 99% of Rebels bashing comes from fairweather edgelords spoiled on TCW. EUfags will bitch about a lot of things, but it tends to be centered around everything outside of the period between ROTS and ANH.

I'm digging everything Claudia is doing with Leia. Bloodlines was fantastic, her cameo in Lost Stars was nice, and I'm halfway through the Leia book, which is entertaining.

The focus on the time between 3 and 4 when the rebellion is building is really nice. I look forward to some post-ESB and especially post-Jedi stuff, but it feels really cohesive.

Continuing from that, the cohesion in general is amazing. Saw showed up in a fucking movie. Sloane was in AND, the Kanan comic, Aftermath, and got a namedrop in Phasma. Grakkus is all over the comics. Bones showed up in Poe's comic. The Geonoshian queen we saw in Vader's comic is the egg we see in Rebels. And so on and so on - there's a lot of great examples of this, and it really feels like a nice singular universe.

Admittedly I was never much into Legends, but here's what I've got

The sheer amount of content they gave the CW era was pretty sick. Even without the TV show, there were books and comics galore. And the CW era was kino setting anyway.

Canon may catch up at some point, but I liked that in the old EU there was a bunch of random shit going on. The cohesion is real nice, but it would be cool to see more one-off stories that aren't reliant on being related to other stuff.

Better vidya. Maybe BF2 will help fix that.
