So what exactly makes "magic" so special in the RWBYverse?

Autumn wasn't shown to be particularly more powerful than some of the higher tier huntsmen/huntresses. Hell, apparently silver eyed Ruby murder stomped a Fall powered Cinder so bad it wasn't even a fight.

I think Amber was said to not to have been very experienced with the powers. Magic is a big deal because normally they'd have to use Dust for stuff but they can just conjure lightning and fire out of nothing.
Silver Eyes are said to be anti-Grimm, but with how badly Cinder was fucked up, I'd say they might be more of anti-magic shit, since silver is said to be the weakness for plenty of other supernatural shit in mythologies.

Amber was an untrained pleb, and Cinder had hax powers and powerful underlings on her side in a 3v1 fight which could've went very differently if Amber had been serious from the start.
That aside, Dust is expended on use and limited in scope. We haven't seen Dust used in really complex ways by anyone else than Weiss who has a synergizing Semblance.
And Aura is a very valuable resource. A hunter with no Aura is basically dead in a serious fight, so Aura is basically both their HP and mana bar. Having access to Maiden bullshit means you can pump all of your Aura into defense instead.

RWBY did start out too strong, especially against Grimm. In volume 1 Yang took on two Ursa with a smile like they were nothing. In her short she struggled. In volume 1 and 3 they were fodder, but in volume 4 and forward they are more of a threat.

Yeah, remember Ruby pretty much thrashing Roman's gang with a karate kick and a few other unarmed moves before she brought out her weapons? They released an obvious ship song about Blake and Yang, and then one of the VA's clarified that nobody in the production crew actually greenlighted it and it was done just for shits and giggles. Ruby wanted to learn how to help people, Yang just wanted an excuse to chase thrills, boys and her mother without the watchful eye of her father or helicoptering of her sister. Fun fact: Throwing one of the people working for Roman (one of Jr's men I assume) in 1st episode out of the dust was cut from the japanese dub.

Also IIRC in the english we didn't see her do that. We heard it and see him get launched out the window. Then we see ruby get throw out a different window, after which we see her get out her weapon.

You know one thing I always wondered, Ruby met Yang at the end of her trailer, and it's clearly right before the first episode because it's the same town, it's the same night, so where did Yang run off to leaving Ruby to her own devices?

I guess Yang flaking on Ruby for her mother isn't exactly new business. No wonder Ozpin put her and Ruby on the same team, Yang would probably never corporate with anybody else, make a shit leader and definitely not be there for team exercises and whatnot. Old Oz made the best out of a bad group I see. I doubt Weiss and Blake would have been any better as leaders

You know, seeing all those volume 3 fights, I'm starting to understand why everyone was mad at Ozpin, all his students fought like amateurs, Team RWBY needed Yang's rage mode to win all of their fights, Team JNPR relied on either Nora or Pyrrha in all the fights we saw, I can't remember if Team SSSN were beacon's kids or not, Team CFVY, the supposed elite of beacon, were completely embrassed and humiliated, Team CRDL were obliterated by Penny, If you were watching that shit on TV, Beacon looked to be the weakest line up out of all the schools with all of their victories only brought about by the same ole tactics or by severe underestimation by their opponents. It was a mess, like it was a bunch of kids playing warrior than actual fighters.

Another thing that bothers me is how willing the white fang were to lay down their lives with absolutely nothing to show for it, how many of them died in that tunnel? Yet the still listen to Adam, How many of them died in the battle for beacon that they didn't even need to be apart of since those grimm were more than enough to kill everyone there.Suddenly it makes sense that the only people in the fang now are a bunch of blood thirsty cult like genociders. What a joke, even more so since Cinder made them officially their bitch and slaughtered even more of them. The fuck is Adam being offered by Salem to constantly throw his comrades lives away by the truckloads?

That depends entirely on penny's systems which literally nobody understands. Since it should be a solid base system with some flexible routines she's able to modify, it's unlikely that she's making major modifications to her routines on the fly and that the cct and cct relays are basically wi-fi, it's entirely plausible that she is perpetually updating her system image backup and there would likely be a git-esque management system providing a full incremental log throughout so they could roll back to any point in time of her development.

At the very least, they would have the other prototypes and should have been able to get a functional penny within 6 months

Honestly, I don't hate Blake. A lot of the stuff she's done and how she acted thus far has been pretty shitty, but it's not so much that she makes me mad, just disappointed.

When shit gets too real, she bails. It happened when she realized Adam wasn't in the White Fang to make things better for other Faunus, but to subjugate humanity. When the fact she was a Faunus was revealed to her teammates, her first instinct was to run. When Adam comes to Beacon, stabs her in the gut and slices off Yang's arm, she bails. Her motivation differs in each situation, but the fact remains that she constantly runs from her problems, and tries to convince herself that she's doing the right thing by doing this, except it's not, and it does far more harm than good, as Sun points out. Of course, when confronted with this, she slaps him, showing that she's still in denial.

She's also stubborn as fuck. When something isn't right, she wants to make it right, and goes about it doing this one thing, absolutely certain that it'll work out, even when others say it won't, which just makes her want it to work even more. She When the White Fang changed how she did things, she was convinced that the old ways were better, and in a way, she was right, as the current White Fang are nothing but glorified thugs touting themselves as the voice of the Faunus, even though they've all basically disowned them. Same thing with Chameleon Girl saying that Blake's plan won't work, and that they should get out of Menagerie; It's clear it's not gonna work, but Blake refuses to believe that.

Blake is a shit character, yeah, but she's also the kind of character you want to see get better, and feel disappointment when she continues to stagnate character development-wise.

No, the proof of concept that proves that an artificial aura can be made. Even herself says that she's the vanguard of what will save humanity. In the project as a whole, they were still ironing out wrinkles that'd come from the cutting edge tech but mass-manufacture was the end goal.

As they were deployed, they were slaved to a (soon to be compromised) command ship which would have the best grasp of a combat situation. In the future, the platoons would be lead by a synthetic standalone hunter each instead, ironically circumventing the very flaw that was exploited.

Also considering the previous wars and criminal/bandit actions, it's a plot hole that there were no signal jammers

There is potential in RWBY but sadly it's never gonna reach it with the bad writing and sduling problems they have, that light novel with the racist loli written by a nip was far better written than anything I ever saw in the show, Team RWBY were actually acting close to each other, even a certain somebody ended up being thrown in the pool and for once, Jaune doesn't put his foot in his mouth when talking to Weiss or Pyrrha, Nora is surprisingly observant and jealous Pyrrha was pretty amusing.

That's what Penny was taught to believe, and maybe that was her initial purpose, but creating something once doesn't necessarily mean you can do it again especially on a mass produced scale

Penny was protected because they needed to know exactly what she was and how they could replicate her, implying she's something so inherently different and can't be copied without knowing what she's capable of.

Because that was the end goal. Mass produced hunters solve the majority of issues the people face. As for the production, I do agree with you. They'd clearly been trying for a long time and likely don't know exactly what caused penny to succeed over the others but that's merely a matter of time to nail down if they get sufficient funding.

She was protected in part because of that, partly for a third party to judge her behavior, but also because she is quite literally the first child of her kind. Anything could happen causing her to react in an unpredictable and potentially dangerous way. Penny could easily wholesale slaughter thousands cause something got her clit in a twist.

There were many reasons they kept Penny secret and under lock and key, but only Ruby and maybe the professor, I dunno saw her as a person with feelings and an actual soul.

My point is, no matter how you slice it Penny was a one of a kind robot that can't be replicated or copied on any level because after her death all notions of that went down the drain, regardless of any future goals to make other "Pennies" if you will.

My point is, It wont be penny. They may not even be able to transfer her system image into a bootstrapped prototype to get her revived asap. They may not even manage to solve anything but better system routines and have to work on sparking a new synth. It may take them years to luckshitter into accidentally forming another synthetic aura but it will happen. And every time they do it, every day of new data they'll be closer to mass production
