>>95823948There was a "world of foreshadowing" on it.
A video I can't find on Youtube, oddly.
Basically, Mantle was a kingdom in the north of the world's map. It figured out the link between emotions and Grimm and decided to keep emotions repressed.
Mantled enjoyed a special relationship with Mistral, trading in good and technology. Eventually this allowed Mistral to settle it's entire continent, adopting Mantle's policy of emotional suppression for the lowest classes while nobles were allowed to do shit.
Eventually the Vale kingdom was in the midst of expanding when Mistral was setting it's sights on the continent for settling too, creating tension
This tension eventually ramped up till settlers begged the king of Vale to take action and drive the Mistrali from the land. He didn't and eventually things got bad enough for a war to start.
It was Mistral and Mantle vs. Vale, with the fourth kingdom of Vacuo being persuaded to stay out of the conflict until they were being strong-armed by Mantle and Mistral into joining their side. Vacuo said fuck off and joined Vale.
After plenty of battled the king of Vale took to the battleground himself in Vacuo and promptly fucked every bodies shit up, enough so that the other three kingdom were ready to swear loyalty to Vale out of sheer awe.
Instead he ended the war on neutral ground, then created the combat schools and created the councils before stepping down from being king.
That's all the history we've been told.
