>>95746684Patently false, shitty gamer comedy webcomics used to be so popular people could actually unironically make a lifetime business out of them that extended into a ton of tie ins into a larger corporate environment, even buckley is immensely successful financially.
Nowadays a webcomic is lucky to break even off e-begging on patreon. Before the ad money bubble burst, webcomics used to be extremely profitable and it helped authors keep a consistent schedule, yet the newest generation of webcomic authors are a bunch of soyboys who can barely shit out one page a week.
Ever since the homestuck fad crashed webcomics have across the board been becoming less and less popular while indie games only rise further and further in popularity, notice how mass fanart essentially doesnt exist for webcomics anymore, just the latest videogame fads.
Its a dead end medium with dead end peers for a dead end product made for a dead end audience. It's not just dead, its outright toxic and should be assimilated into a larger, better, more productive entity like the koreans are doing with their webcomics.
And let's not forget the absolute farce of a business that large webcomic conglomerates like hiveworks are. They're essentially a pyramid scheme run by the same group of cronies from the early 00's and no one has bothered to call them out on their bullshit, bad business practices, and incompetency.
And this isn't even mentioning the blatant use of propagandism as of late. The medium, if you can even call it that, is essentially just an advertising tool for poorly connected illustrators to try and land a job at a larger studio, and as such end up pandering to the extremists in the professional field so they can get a bone thrown their way.
It's a disgusting, abhorrent medium using the worst of the web2.0 era of media manipulation, with a community of outright degenerates and cartoon pedophiles, and so undeveloped as an artform its obsolete and cant compete.
