People unfamiliar with the Inhuman royal family -- and in particular not primed to see Maximus as the bad guy -- came away from it feeling like it was the story of reasonable social revolution.
People who just like cool punch ups hated the bad special effects and cheap look of the set and, well, everything else.
Personally, I saw it as just a very poorly constructed story. I never understood the impetus for characters' actions. Why is Maximus so insistent that they get to Earth immediately? We're told there's some sort of resource shortage but what is it and how is it affecting people? Why did the entirety of the Royal Guard just decided to flip sides on a whim?
It all just felt like rushed, poorly thought out setup to get us to the intended structure of the show with the royal family ousted trying to get back to power -- but if the show didn't care enough to set up its core conflict in a compelling way, why should I care about anything that's occurring?
