>>95725130Adding to what this guy said, but special effects also have a one size fits all problem where unless you invested a LOT of money up front, every scene still needs touchups later.
Like, lets say they have the model for Lockjaw. They have the teleport effect for Lockjaw. They have the rendering and lighting engine for Lockjaw. But the Lighting engine was only really designs for, say, brightly lit areas. So any scene where Lockjaw stands even partially in Shadow ends up looking super weird, and they have to go back and manually paint in the shadows and shit for each frame he is there. Same goes for night shots.
Does Lockjaw fall in a river and get wet fur? Better give the special effects guys 3 months to make that look good, because otherwise it absolutely will not.
And that's assuming that 'LockJaw standing dry in an even and brightly lit area' always looks good for all such cases that can happen. Its likely it wont, here and there, and the special effects doctors will have to go in and do cosmetic surgery to fix whatever irregularity pops up. The shittier your starting model/engine package, the more often this has to happen.
