During the Tom and Marco episode, Marco is going to vent about how difficult things are with Star since she confessed to him. He's going to ask Tom how he and Star met, which gives a flashback to the Silver Bell Ball. Tom will then say the Blood Moon Ball was supposed to rekindle the magic they had between each other, before Marco interfered. They will both be very quiet, then Marco will mention that Star was mad at him for interrupting their night, that "she didn't want a hero, only a friend." Both of them will get quiet again before Marco asks about the Blood Moon.
Tom will simply say that it's SUPPOSED to be magic, but magic can't make people fall in love with each other for real. It's something that's supposed to come from the heart. Whether or not Star and Marco care for each other is completely separate from the dance. The episode ends with Tom saying that if Marco does want to date Star, he won't be happy about it, but he won't be mad "because you're an alright dude." Then Marco will mention how he's dating Jackie, which opens up the Firewatership.
