What do you also want the last episode to be?

My idea was Jake's retiring, so he and Finn will stop living together soon. Meanwhile, Ice King seems like he's back to his old villainous ways again. So PB asks Finn and Jake go on one last adventure together, but it turns out Ice King's madness is all a big misunderstanding. Maybe he was just planning a party for all of the bit characters, I don't know. Ends with Finn and Jake going their separate ways, last shot of Finn meeting Huntress Wizard and them holding hands, looking off into the distance.

Basically Finn grows up, boy becomes man, etc.

Exactly, so he would full on retire. Finn can mostly handle things himself and the show keeps repeating that Jake is older, so it's not too crazy to think he'd rather cut back on the monster fighting and move in with Lady or something.

When was this, The Pit? Even without that being 4 years ago that was just her correcting Finn and annoyed he didn't know, she totally loves Jake and I see no reason she wouldn't be happy having him move in with her.
Jake proposing to Lady and shacking up would be a nice enough ending for Jake and let Finn transition into full adulthood, could work extremely well as an ending.

They really weren't thinking when they designed these last seasons were they? They turned it back into a comedic-adventure season for season 6 and then went back to lore and it's obvious that they needed that sixth season to push more lore time.

Dirt Beer Guy is now a bar owner, and knowing whether he eventually finished his book or not really isn't that important.

Similarly, Fire Giants don't matter since they're inactive and it's highly unlikely we'll have another Flame Kingdom centric episode. Only way I can see it happening is if FP's brother decides to go rogue and hijack the last one.

The real plot thread that needs resolving is GOLB, and is probably going to be wrapped up at the same time as Prismo's boss.

Gumbald doesn't really seem like an interesting villain sadly, I sort of wish they made him a magician or some shit and worked in PB's hatred of magic into things.

I think it's only right that the show end with the lowest-key villain. we've seen PB change and develop over time, from a sweet lady, to finn's favorite playmate, to a cold, distant, increasingly fearful lady, to a severely paranoid person, right back to finn's potential playmate again, and marcie's new galpal to boot. Plus we've gotten more insights into her past than anyone else but Marcie. Gumbald represents the worst of what she could have become, so he's the perfect final boss of what has been a very long postgame

when the pilot came out I was like YES this is ALL of my jam. at the time i was resuming my webcomic which it already felt super similar to, and I was just so happy to be on a wavelength. so pleased cartoons were getting good again.
When HomestarRunner went on the big hiatus, and internet culture in general started to suck from all the phone shit, Adventure Time and ponies was there to give me something to care about online. discovered 4chan. had a hell of a time. i'm just not ready for it to ever end.. especially when it was at such a rapid pace for so many years and then sudden screeching endless hiatus and no reruns

The buildup was that episode. I'm actually happy Finn gets a relatively drama-free relationship for once. Boy and girl like each other. Boy and girl decide to keep it casual but still make out when they're together. I feel like HW is the girlfriend that will take Finn into adulthood but probably won't be endgame in his life, just endgame for the show. I can see them lasting a while though.

I'd go so far as to say HW wan't hunting the banana monster at all -she was hunting Finn, and using the beast as an excuse to hang with him.

The only thing that slightly jarred me was the kiss. Even HW actively flirting seemed natural. Yeah, they've kissed once before, but then HW said some stuff and I thought it was more or less over for the time being. I fully thought Finn would get rejected when he went in for the kiss, and was pleasantly surprised that she let him. I guess they're done with Awkward Finn, thank Jesus. Now that the smooch barrier is broken, everything after should feel natural. Finn just had to go for it, which is always awkward when you aren't sure about the nature of a relationship.

Just finished watching them, and I thought they were all good. Even Son of Rap Bear was surprisingly okay, for what it was. Favourite would have to be Wild Hunt, they really sold me on Finn and HW's dynamic and I hope we get to see more of it. Always BMO Closing was adorable. Bonnibel Bubblegum felt like it was necessary exposition, rather than being a truly great episode in and of itself if that makes sense. I still enjoyed it, just nothing exceptional.

I understand with 8, I'm one of the people who thought Elements was exceedingly strong and that Islands and the rest of the batch were overall really good.
The only episode of the bunch I consider bad is the Fionna and Cake one, and surprise there since I haven't liked those eps since Bad Little Boy.

I don't whether I'm more bummed that we don't know when the next episodes air or that there are only twelve left (and whatever Tom Kenny tweeted about a while back). I loved The Wild Hunt and Bonnibel Bubblegum (even though I know they just make it up as they go along, the revelation about PB's family was still neat), Always BMO Closing was pretty good, and while I knew Son of Rap Bear would be the weakest one of the four, it wasn't terrible and I appreciate that Finn and Phoebe are still friends at the end of all this.

I'm confused, wasn't the last change we heard that basically there was always going to be 9 seasons, but the point at which 9 starts was moved? I forget if it was moved forward or back, but where it is right now makes the most sense (excluding the 10 thing) because each one would be the same length as the other seasons

It's weird to see a character like Huntress Wizard being so suddenly developed inside the main plot as a full character and not as a minor cameo character. I've always been a big fan of her, since the day they showed her in Reign of Gunters. Her design and sassy personality sold me on her character, but I never ever expected her to be implemented in the story in a such big way, and honestly I'm even sure if that's really a good thing.

The thing about Huntress Wizard suddenly becoming Finn's main love interest after the break-up with Flame Princess always felt very rushed to me. Even Flame Princess, a character I've always found very bland and boring, was a better received character because her addition to the story and her relationship with Finn was much more well written. I guess the writers didn't feel like the show was ending anytime soon when they introduced her, so they felt they had the time to give her episode a proper story and pacing. Finn didn't suddenly kiss her at her first appearance, Flame Princess had time to breathe and develop herself a bit before making her Finn's girlfriend.

When I heard Huntress Wizard was finally getting her own episode with Flute Spell I was very happy about it simply because I was a big fan of her design and personality in Reign of Gunters, and at the end of the day it's not like Flute Spell made her feel different or "wrong", nor did The Wild Hunt. It's just that her relationship with Finn felt insanely rushed compared to the relationship between Finn and Flame Princess. The very first episode they try to introduce her as a fully written character and Finn already expresses his feelings to her? And not like those feelings felt really well expressed, it was mostly Jake's thoughts that implied Finn's interest in HW. No internal drama, no development. It just... happens.

Now I hear that Jack Pendarvis confirmed that the show got cancelled by the execs, and that made me realize how rushed the final episodes are going to be.

Eh, that was the sad part though.

She created some people to be her "family", but she didn't treat any of them like she treated Neddy. She even said the moment after they were born they had to "protect her", like they were an earlier version of guards.

We didn't see any real family moments with them either, they just helped her build up her candy kingdom. They were more like workers/grunts than family. It started to unravel when Gumbald wanted to exert his autonomy/free will, and Bonnie ruined his plans so they would return to work (instead they mutinied).

It was only when her creations were dumbed down to happy, simple-minded drones that they did her bidding unconditionally (e.g. "dance for me"), and PB made peace with that.

seriously it was bizarre how they had an episode all about finn getting too concerned that he had offended her, assuming the worst, thinking they were broken up (when they weren't even remotely official yet) and finding out he hadn't really and everything was fine..
only to reverse that on almost the very next time she was brought up... but after like 4 or 5 episodes in a row making it obviously clear that it was all going to blow over and be fine, and finn was overreacting...
then.. nope! it really was that bad all along, and isn't going to be fixed.

FP started out as a non-character in which the writers could never pin-point what her personality was. She was literally a character created for romance drama and once she broke up with Finn they didn't know what to do with her anymore until the last two season where they made Finn made up with her to complete his character development and her practicing her rapping ability. Its more to say that they were trying to do something with what little Sugar left them and then say fuck it.

FP has never been a well-received character, people just liked the notion of Finn moving on from that blueballing cunt PB so anyone would have been fine but from her introduction the writers never could decide exactly what her personality was (remember when all she wanted to do was burn shit and now she's a rapper?) and she didn't received nearly as much development as HW so its no surprise that when they broke up she got pushed to the side like she was never there.

not that HW isnt appealing, this last episode makes me like here more but their relationship episode felt more shoe horned. we just had a whole bunch of episodes of finn hooking up with a bunch of other women, lsp, that one bee girl (who also felt more natural as a new love interest)
with HW, it seems like she's into him and hes like "ok" with it(just accepting the fact someone likes him and saying yes to reciprocate)
finn expressing his feelings compared to hw's feelings seemed unbalanced especially from finn
hw saw how their relationship would effect them in the long run, finn just agreed

If I have to rank the episodes, I'd say:

1) Always BMO Closing;
2) The Wild Hunt;
3) Bonnibel Bubblegum;

I really don't know how Seo Kim and Xayaphone are still in the crew, they've been doing some of the worst episodes in the show for a while, but I guess it doesn't matter anymore since the show is coming to an end. I just hope they don't storyboard the finale.

This. It's not a sappy, rose lensed fairy tale relationship. HW is a free bird who doesn't want to feel shackled and Finn respects that. The fact that this show never took the opportunity to have fun with more of the interesting background designs is such a crime.
