>>95390680It's funny, usually these kinds of things get boring the instant a long-running ship-tease turns into an official couple. Unresolved romantic tension and unrequited feelings are simple stuff to write about, and you can get a lot of mileage and rabid fans by writing about those themes. But a lot of writers don't seem to know what to do with established couples and how to keep their interactions interesting for the audience.
Jon and Liz hooking up appears to have improved the strip and both characters, somehow. It was kind of a brave choice to alter the status quo like that, but it actually worked.
I think part of it is because Jon used to be this loser who could never win. He had been suffering through these long strings of failures, and it had become more depressing than funny.
The relationship hasn't changed Jon that much as a person, he's still a loser with weird quirks and horrible fashion sense. But even if he continues to be an oddball, he did get the girl, and there's something good in his life these days.
