Most feminists, especially the feminist "men" nowadays do not believe women are equals to men. They'll say it, but they really believe that women are fragile little darlings that need men to tell them what to do and help them achieve their goals.
What's that got to do with Other M?
Guys like Bob and Dobson, they'll tell you how they like Samus, cause she's a strong independent woman who doesn't need a man holding her hand. And it's true, she is all that and a bag of chips too.
But if you take her real power, her agency and motivation and self-determination, if you make her ask a big man for permission before she can use her abilities, while maintaning the superficial power, the cannon, the strenght, the toughness? Why, that is how women are supposed to be. They can point out she's a strong character, but at the same time they can get their chubbies on her being submissive to them.
