Actually, no. The crew member who stated that was mistaken because of a mix-up in production. Mary Marvel had her own alternate equivalent in a background scene.

IIRC John Byrne actually planned to do that when he was going to do a revamp of the Marvel Family in the late 80's. He was gonna have Captain Marvel Jr be an adult who transformed into a teen superhero. But then the project got shelved or something.
