It's not going to win any awards, but whenever something about the visuals is bad, it's clear that it's intentionally, stylistically bad. You can argue about this all you like, but to me, the lows are emphasizing the high points.
Studio Trigger is famous for having hilariously crappy animation at times and yet having some of the best animation in the business, and I know they've been in contact with the KO team. I don't think you can distill it down to "good animation is good, bad is bad". I think you have to look at the timing.
