>>94512894Honestly the main reason I don't care about that shit is because of the whole "Rick knows he's in a TV show" theory. Basically Rick knows that he's in a TV show and the only way he can think of to keep them from getting canceled is to appeal to the big bang style of audience. It makes sense when you go back and see all the times he talks to the camera or does weird stuff that only makes sense to the viewer. Even the pickle episode makes sense from that standpoint. Rick knew the average viewer of the show would never watch an episode where the family just goes to therapy, so he rigs up a ridiculous adventure to keep our attention while the rest of the family develops the plot.
It'd be pretty damn funny to watch Rick break down in one of the last episodes as he goes on about how they're on TV and the only way he knew to keep the show from falling flat was by throwing in random BS every so often to keep the casual fanbase entertained. Contrived as hell and would piss off most of its viewership to no end, but you'd be lying if there weren't signs that this was going to happen. Hell even the most recent episode had a 4th wall breaking "Uhhh... we'll be right back" where Rick looks directly at the viewer before cutting to commercial.
Rick and Morty is far from perfect but it has enough funny moments that it keeps my attention. If it turns out that that is the correct theory then the fallout when they finally bash the average viewer upside the head with it will be incredible, putting the Samurai Jack finale outrage to shame. If not, oh well I got a few good laughs and it's not the worst show on TV, no skin off my bones and I have something to relate with people at work when they want to talk about TV.
