>>94218507Yeah essentially. Because, Dust can kill all the bad guys, she can peel the flesh from the skin if she so desires and she can kill them in the most horrific ways imaginable to man... But what happens next? The people who were killed are still going to remain dead. The people who might of helped her are in danger and she can't protect them 24/7. She also has to combat an ideology which perverts the very principles which she lives by and takes pride in.
>>94218506I'd say Dust is a good religious character. She certainly has her flaws and she also finds it incredibly difficult to fit into society. There is also the fact that she is Muslim by choice and after all the things she has seen.
>>94218524Really? Goddamnit. I really liked Matt being a Catholic, both for the irony and the stories like Born Again, where his faith was linked to his character, but not made the main aspect of him. Who made him an Atheist. If it was someone like Soule, I honestly would not be surprised.
As for extremists, I get what you mean. Yes, I find it aggravating that Marvel hasn't added Islamic Extremists. I mean, if I wrote it, I'd basically say this. Do these people represent all of Islam. Of course fucking not, but they do exist and need to be addressed regardless. The biggest problem is that Islamic extremism isn't just sensitive, it is also really fucking complicated. So to have in a comic is really hard.
I do agree with your point about diversity. I mean, Claremont did it fucking right. All the characters have their own ethnic backgrounds and are influenced by their culture, all of which were incredibly diverse.
I agree with your point. For the most part, DC does it well. That isn't to say that there are some good representation in Marvel. I mean, I remember what my teacher taught me, which I agree with. Treat the characters as people with their own personalities and traits. Do not make them flawless and too pure. Make them people
