But seriously, a sequel that features Nick and Judy would be a shallow cash grab; the story they is perfectly wrapped up and whatever spins from them now doesn't utilize the setting in a more meaningful way than the first.
There wasn't enough racism displayed in the movie to imply that the changing tide was on its way regardless of what Dawn conspired, so continuing the themes of prejudice with people who already learned their lesson is an oddly specific "not this shit again". I don't know, maybe Nick gets framed for something and all those warm fuzzy feelings of the first fox cop are invalidated and he's the poor victim again, but it turns out the one who set him up is his dad and we all learn an important lesson about racism. Again.
New charters still working through prejudice, maybe from fallout during the pred scare, who deal with failure to contrast with Judy's success to show some cynically optimistic moral would probably be a better option, if not just to be the first Disney franchise that is more about a setting than a set of characters.
... Which swings back to the topic of marketing: they probably want to sell specific character products, not a spray and pray of new things.
