>>93966079I worked in retail and didn't mind the wheeling and dealing, even when it was somebody I knew. I was even into it when discounts generated volume; I always attempted a tit for tat. What crossed the line for me is when people got indignant and hostile when I told them "no".
"The customer is always right!"
"I pay your salary!"
"Everything will eventually go on clearance anyway so give me 75% off!"
The best part was that I could (diplomatically) tell these people to fuck off because I was the only one willing to deal with them. The actual manager sent them to me. Funniest part was I was a teenager at the time. Adults really didn't like being lectured by a kid but they had no choice.
This was a family-owned business, by the way, not some corporate entity so they didn't want to pay out of pocket for moron non-customers.
Anyway, were I Clinton and getting speedy service at a discounted price, I'd probably overpay, but that's me. Faye seems willing to take the money rather than doing the "no, no it's fine thing" so it wouldn't even be awkward. Even if you're a complete asshole, there's still the aspect of treating the shop well when they're just getting started. Businesses always remember their early customers.
