Please, Squirrel Girl and Hellcat never suffer as Gwen does. They have a litany of diverse side-characters who prop them up by telling them how awesome they are every day, with cute little side text and quasi-ironic expostion boxes that keeps everything feeling safe and fun.
Gwen is not that, and she works because she is so uniquely pathetic and, ergo, flawed and relatable. A NEET who did nothing but play video games until she got sucked into the Marvel Universe, and when she tried to carve out a niche and survive by playing the world's tropes against it, she ended up killing Cecil. She got her team broken up. She does
crazy things to act out and keep the tropes on her side, but she still makes mistakes, she still suffers. Gwenpool works because it has a great balance of Cute-to-Suffering to keep it both fun and grounded in relatable consequence.
But the art does suck often, yes, and it's a shame, because Gwenpool is besta sa Cute.
