>>92759346I didn't like his voice (it just seemed like Tom Kenny doing an evil Spongebob), his design and him being a judo master (seems like they had to make everyone in that show a fighter so they could sell toys) and I overall don't think The Batman was a very good show. But I did like several things about that Penguin.
For one, I like that they made him more active, I liked the Kabuki twins. I like the idea of Penguin traveling to the Orient to make himself stronger like Bruce Wayne, especially since it's the kind of backstory old pulp vigilantes like The Shadow used to have, and Penguin is sometimes portrayed as a villainous version of a classic heroic archetype. And I like that they gave him a connection to Alfred and a more extensive backstory, expanding on the idea that the Cobblepots were enemies to the Waynes.
Overall, I think the show definitely had the right idea in playing up Penguin's connection to Bruce Wayne.
As I said, I don't like the show, and there are still things about that Penguin which turn me off. But out of all the characters that The Batman reimagined, I think Penguin was one of the better results (I also started liking their spin on Joker once they ditched the straight-jacket and the monkey kung fu).
Pic related I think is one of the most perfect depictions of Penguin ever made and I wish more writers used it as a basis.
