>>92004880>So, I agree that the field should strive for growth, but you're wrong to claim it has nothing effective to offer people currently.Ok so maybe I was too hyperbolic. On other posts, I did admit that therapy does help, but its models are too broad to be truly effective.
Like you, I also do point out that this is a loooong game, we can't fault it right now for not being perfect, when all that preceded was thousands of years of nothing but "these people are posessed by spirits!".
Which brings us to:
>>92004908Yes, absolutely, there's a huge stigma on mental issues, and that needs to fucking change.
One could argue that it's already changing, since in recent years I've seen general attitudes towards depression get a lot better and more informed. I can only hope things continue to get better beyond that, over time.
About the drugs though, again, with therapy that can help but not fix the issues, we can only look at what we CAN more or less fix, and that's basically chemicals. I said it already, it's raw, faaaar from perfect. But it works better than the alternative.
>>92005035Nah, there's evidence that it has roots in the development of the brain during gestation and infancy. The thing is, ideology and politics are making it so that it becomes an identity issue rather than a biological one.
I'm generally of an utilitarian mindset. We can't currently fix the brain issues that cause transgenderism, so the only way to improve their lives now is surgeries and hormone treatments and so on. The problem is politics won't let research move towards fixing the brain, because that'd mean admitting that they're ill, not just "another kind of people".
