*A very solid episode with a good mix of comedy and serious mood-setting. The river of screaming damned is probably the best bit of Jack's insanity in the ep.
2 - 10/10
Does it really need to be explained? Cool environments, creative fighting, memorable music, and a splash of comedy.
3 - 10/10
Visually excellent, with a rare glimpse into Jack's past and how he understands violence. The best appearance of suicide Jack. The fight shows how dangerous Jack is when he genuinely intends to hurt someone, and it isn't pretty.
4 - 9/10
A solid, slower-paced episode with some interesting environments. Jack is funny here, and a bit dorky, which is something we've sorely been lacking. Hotline Miami Jack had a cool look. The bit with the transparent fish was probably the best 'action' chunk.
5 - 7/10
This episode has too many things going on too fast, but executes what it has to work with decently. I am not a fan of the way the Scotsman's scene resolved, but his death was pretty funny and completely on-point. The bit in the factory with rape Moltar is too rushed.
6 - 10/10
This episode is mostly a treat for long-time viewers, heavy on comedy with a few splashes of heartwarming. Genndy finally makes use of his [AS} block to make one laser-guided off-color joke. It was a shame not to see the shaolin monks. This episode even managed to pull off a bit of Ashi's nasty past well despite heavy comedic bracketing on either side of the revelation. "I like your hair - and dress" is spot-on Jack dweebishness, and a good way to release tension from a dark climax.
7 - 8/10
The only thing really 'wrong' with this episode is that it needed more of its 3 main elements. Jack finally banishes suicide Jack, and he will be missed. Ashi's mother's death felt a bit too quick, but then again, she wasn't in the training from hell. I don't know that she'll stay dead.
Personal favorite episode: 3.
