I'm not a full-on Sonic autist so I probably couldn't explain this as good as other people can, but he's good because he's a non-conventional hero without the added edge other videogame protagonists often bring to the table.
There are a lot of games and comics where he is misrepresented, but when he is written right these are the traits that make him (in my opinion) a good character, or at least a good role model:
>Cocky and snarky, but knows his limits and his banter is in good nature (except when it's directed at Eggman, for obvious reasons)>Genuinely heroic and good-natured, but despite being cocky he doesn't make a deal out of it>Willing to be the bad guy in someone's narrative if he believes he's doing the right thing (without the edge seen in other characters)Sonic's the type of guy who'd laugh at you for tripping and falling, but he'd be the first in helping you up and checking if you're actually OK
