So like I asked in the last thread, is Baze's blaster based off any real-world gun? I know Krennic's is an MP 40 and Cassian's is the lower receiver of an M16, so I figure Baze's has to be based off something.

Not every Star Wars gun is refurbished military surplus, Baze's looks like a nerf gun. Also Krennic's pistol was based design wise off of an MP40s lower receiver, but in actuality the gun doesn't match to a real one, it's a custom build prop.

I've seen all main movies, plus the ewok movies, plus the popular webms that get poseted here from Rebels and Clone Wars. Apart from the TIE Fighters letting the Falcon go in ANH, TIE Fighters get some kills on Rebel fighters, but the K/D ratio is enormously on the Rebels' side. SDs seem all big and bad, but we never see them putting out the rate of fire they supposedly can, nor dealing the damage the supposedly can do. They have terrible weak spots that can be and are taken advantage of. The only reason SDs send Rebels packing is because they've bought into the hype that surrounds them, or because they're outnumbered.
Stormies did fuck all against the Ewoks.

The way I see it, the Empire had a fuck load of spare parts for an aborted Death Star, and a new design that had a totally different set of dimensions.

So it'd make sense they'd just graft on prototype parts, spare bits, and whatever else onto other stuff.

The way I see it, it was always the lowest grade of canon and nobody cared about that story to begin with. It was a spinoff sequel to a game made from recycled assets from a series that was effectively dead at the time and then recycled again for a card game. The entire point of canon grades was the ability to ignore shit like that if you felt like it.

AOTC and ROTS don't cont, those were literally 2 second cameos and had nothing to do with the plot

ANH, ROTJ, TFA and RO all revolve around a Death Star plot. I'd defend all of them as justified except TFA though.

Rebels had the Malachor temple, which people often forget.

I don't really count nods/references, only explicit plots regarding superweapons, which would leave;

TCW: 3/129 episodes
Rebels: 2/59 episodes

I maintain that the only time I felt like things had gone too far was Starkiller Base. That's the only time I felt like we were cockslapped with ANOTHER Superweapon plot, especially when you consider the chronology of the movies.

You could have another that's ruled in a monarchist fashion crowning some Moff as a new emperor

I would say ROTJ and TFA have the same problem where the heroes are doing something else entirely and then whoops we need a Death Star because this is a SW movie.

ROTJ is probably my favorite Star Wars film, but I'd say that adding the DS2 was the weakest move of the movie and the most obvious example besides Force Leia that Lucas just welded two different movie scripts together after running out of fucks to give.

DS2 at least made sense in that the Empire's entire plan for domination was centered around the Death Star, so of course they went ahead and built another. It was also used to give us a more climactic ending where they doubled down on a huge space fight.

Lucas thought it was the end of the story, so he just said "fuck it, we'll do a big space fight"

Starkiller Base has literally zero reason to exist, logically or in-universe, it's purely there for Death Star imagery. Having it at the start of the trilogy was the most offensive thing about it too, like JJ wanted some kind of "big event" to happen in his movie, because he knew without it, his shit would be even more irrelevant to the rest of the saga than it already is.

Though I don't know if the exaggerated design we see in Rebels is supposed to be indicative of prototypical design, I always assumed it was just excessive stylization.

Stormtroopers actually always look different, even across the OT, the designs are different.

ANH Stormtroopers are more "bubbly" and Rebels is a stylization of those.

Don't get me wrong ROTJ is still my favorite movie and the space battle is a big part of that but the Death Star itself felt kind of tacked on. Most of what the actual engagement is, is the fleets and fighters attacking each other with the reveal of the Death Star being operational being a surprise.

You'd get the same effect by putting him aboard the executor and throwing some other weapon effect out there. Maybe the Endor shield base actually has some kind of upscaled proton torpedo. Maybe there's a plasma based lightning cannon aboard the Executor. Hell, maybe the emperor just uses his ULIMITED POWER to crush the fleet directly. It doesn't really matter so long as the empire has an ace in the hole.

Starkiller Base was objectively the only battlestation to actually accomplish its goals

DSI - Nukes a bunch of ISIS on Jedha and destroys an important Imperial installation. Destroys a planet full of space hippies that were probably never gonna pick up arms anyway. TIEs and gunners pick off two dozen X-Wings and Y-Wings.

DSII - Destroys like three Mon Calamari cruisers and a few fighters and that's it.

SKB - Destroys the entire capital system of the New Republic along with the bulk of their fleet and shatters their morale and military. Only thing it fails to do is destroy the headquarters of the Resistance.

Now I'm not defending the idea of Death Stars but Starkiller Base was the only one to actually be a net positive for the people that built it.

I had more problem with the Executor just tumbling out of control after the main bridge is destroyed. I think Gareth Edwards had the same feelings given that he patterned the Battle of Scarif on Endor and intoduced the Hammerheads to explain the SDs ramming into the shield gate.

Excellent question, really. Luke was given rudimentary training on the Falcon which he was further able to use with the Death Star attack, which Vader could sense.
Should Vader have been able to sense a strong tie to the Force in Leia? Honestly, yeah, he should have sensed it when he was in close proximity to her not once, but twice in IV when she was calling upon unreal psychic reserves in not giving up the rebel base OR what was up with the plans.

So. Assuming that the above flaw was corrected - what would Vader do with her? I think he was expected to hand Luke over in episode VI because Sheev was aware of him, of course, but Leia's tie would still have been a secret from the Emperor. I think Vader would have made his move to groom her for training. Furthermore, since Sheev's only follow-up training that he bestowed on a crippled Vader was sending him out to destroy the last vestiges of the Jedi, it's likely Vader was pretty resentful of that shit.

I think he might have been tempted to break the rule of two and double teamed Sheev with Leia as his secret weapon, and sort things out afterwords. I totally seeing it happening, since in his view, Sheev was breaking his own rules of Master / Apprentice training in giving Vader more knowledge and power.

Half a dozen X-Wings made it through as well as a U-Wing. Merrick and the U-Wing were shot down as well as one or two other X-Wings. It's reasonable to assume that none of them escaped.

Three X-Wings pull up and avoid hitting the shield and are pursued by TIEs.

The rebel space forces suffer heavy losses. Blue squadron might have lost every member.

Not enough to win, of course, but sufficient to keep Vader from simply annihilating him immediately with the Dark Side. Even Vader comments on it when he says "You have learned to control your fear."

Assuming Leia's even vaguely close to Luke in power, she's got a strong connection to the Force and no training whatsoever. She's got a strong will, true, but it would be no match for a full-blown Sith Lord at the peak of his powers. Especially since he can arguably use the same argument he used for Luke, but with the added impetus of convincing Leia that if she joins him they can destroy the Emperor and make the galaxy better, which is what she wants from the start.

yeah I like The Force Awakens but Starkiller Base was dumb, especially since it was irrelevant to the story as a whole aside from being the setting for the climax.

Back when we didn't know that much about the story except for Luke's lightsaber being important I assumed that the plot would involve the lightsaber functioning as a sort of key to unlock an ancient Force temple or something. It's kind of dumb but I didn't see how else they could have the lightsaber be important without it having to do with the story.

What would your version of the Old Republic era be?

Watch out for that vicious bounty hunter Boba Fett, Luke. Did I ever tell you I fought his dad? He was hired to assassinate a senator me and your father were guarding. We kept bringing her around open windows and public areas in order to draw the would-be assassin out because we knew he had too much pride to just shoot her from long range. He had used his payment to hire another bounty hunter to kill the senator for him while he sent us on a wild bantha chase. Also the 2nd assassin used her payment to buy a robot to assassinate the senator for her. Did I mention the 2nd assassin was a shapeshifter? She could have been a good friend in disguise and just shot the senator for all we knew! Then the robot used its payment to buy poisonous bugs to release into the senator's room while she slept after lasering a hole through the window. It could have just lasered her too after that because we we weren't watching her at all, but it already bought the bugs. So we sense the hostile life forms (not the robot) in the room and rush in and save the senator in the nick of time! Then I jumped out the window to chase the robot back to its owner! Luckily it didn't have a self-destruct function. Then we found the 2nd assassin and chased her across the planet, and caught her when she tried to kill us instead of shapeshifting and escaping. But to our surprise, Jango Fett was watching the whole thing instead of going to kill the senator while we were away chasing the bugs chasing the robot chasing the shapeshifter. He shot her with a poisonous dart instead of sniper blaster, and only her instead of shooting all of us or blowing all of us with a rocket or something, then he escaped with his tiny jetpack. Luckily for the senator, my good friend Dexterr Jettster owned a 50s dinner on Courscant that had Republic secrets on the menu along with cheeseburgers and malt shakes. We found the assassin and Mace Window killed him later, right in front of Boba. And he was a good friend.

Finally got to watching the last three episodes.
Obi-Wan episode was cool, but pointless, just like Maul's entire revival since TCW.
The Finale was also ok, but underwhelming, everybody lived, except a couple of background characters, Thrawn is still alive and wasn't even really defeated, the whole thing felt like one of those mid-season finales.

Yeah, I mean he *shot* lightning out at the Ghost Crew, but didn't seem to really fixate on it like he held a particular grudge.

Also, thoughts on the Bendu? He's pretty much what I thought Star Wars was always missing from "canon" Star Wars; a force user equivalent to a Arch-Wizard. Deep seeing, beyond mortal affairs, holds phantasmal cosmic powers. I missed that little bit of "Magic" the force is supposed to have.

I was super happy to see the Bendu actually get stronger with his anger in the last episode.

It was a nice scene, and it really solidified for me that the "dark" side of the force is actually not really malevolent, it's just another side of the coin. The side that gets all the good force powers and shit.

The laugh was supposed to be Bendu trolling Thrawn, and the audience.

And we're left with the question; Does it matter?

It's like Ahsoka. Bendu is gone. Literally in the episode, and literally in Rebels. He's gone, like Obi-Wan was in ANH.

Yeah Obi-Wan got to be a ghost, but Bendu got to have his last laugh.

We wont see Bendu again, that's the final point. He got his laugh, and he's gone.

He was a planet, he didn't want to be found, he was found, he got everyone to fuck off, and now nobody will find him again. Why? Because that story is done. And both the Rebels and Empire have fucked off.

And I doubt Tom Baker will be around to voice him in the near-future. Guy is old, and they're not gonna' need Bendu for any more cartoons or movies.

Moraband doesn't even make sense in the new canon. In the EU it worked because it was the tomb planet of the Sith race which had an Egyptian vibe to them. But they're not canon now, so we have Egyptian tombs with Sith lords wearing Samurai armor, or the ones we've seen in flashback or even corpses resemble TOR ones with modern techy armor. A jedi and sith getting stranded together on a strange planet after a space battle thousands of years before the prequels. Due to hostility of it's creatures they decide to call a truce until they figure this shit out. Soon they start to learn about eachother and it's revealed that they both have holocrons with them which they later join together. The time they've spent together has made them friends, but futures they see and are hiding from eachother hurt them.
When they finally manage leave the planet they decide it's for the best they never see eachother again.
It's then revealed the jedi saw himself getting killed by the sith's master as the sith watched on and the sith saw himself killing his own master.
The final scene shows Bendu watching their ship leave the planet's atmosphere.
