I'd say most of their popularity came from Arin mentioning them several times during the Jon era and didn't truly become well known until Danny became Not-So-Grump.
The same thing has kind of happened with TWRP. People had no idea who they were until they started collaborating with NSP a lot, particularly on that big cover album they released last year.
