and i believe that in the Trump supporters's eyes, they saw one person that wanted to make things better for the locals, while the other was going to make things better for the foreigners
When you're forced to chose one out of only two candidates, you are also forced to give up on certain ideals
You don't -HAVE TO- be lacking in empathy just because you voted for the candidate that in your opinion, would make things better for you
Besides, the original statement was that people voted for Trump because of lack of empathy, that's still a huge oversimplification, as a lot of people have argued that Hillary would be more likely to start a war with other nations than Trump
Not to forget the number of other reasons why she was seen as a terrible choice.
As i said, Things aren't black/white, and it's not possible to break something like this down into one simple answer
