By someone is who is still learning to shade.
First off, have your base lines as a seperate layer on top of transparency.
Once you are done with your base lines, copy the layer and post it below the first layer.
Do you base coloring.
Then, using the magical wand tool, select similar light shade sources: Example: Neck, chin and face.
Copy and paste the selection into a new layer above the base color.
Apply different vingettes and mixes.
After sussing around a bit with layer properties and such, merge the layer down and violin!
You have shaded.
It takes some getting used to though before you get it right, and sometimes you just have to go with your gut on things.
