Most birth control pills don't work under arbitrary circumstances unique to their method, such as taking antibiotics, taking sleeping medication, eating too much, eating too little etc. This is in addition to the fact that various conservative and anti-abortion groups throughout the US often try to limit their sale, their supply, and they are often jacked up in price due to this.
Male contraceptives are being tested, but they have lower success rates than condoms, their methods are less convenient (injection based), and they cause suicide within a month via their initial tests. When the finished product is out, it'll probably have some thalidomide style sleeper side effect as well.
