Their technology and power all improves. Turbo was a bit of a stumble (which is always heavily criticized), but look from the beginning to Space. They start defending Earth from invasion, to going to other planets, and stopping invasion there.
Hell, it's pushed even further in the next season, where they got to another galaxy.
I'm not saying any of the later seasons are bad because they don't tie into anything overarching, but I will say it left me kind of disappointed as kid, and that has to mean something, right? When even your 9 or 10 year old self is starting to feel like these Power Ranger seasons are starting to seem like the same old thing, but with a new hat.
