Does anyone find this reasoning inherently flawed? What he and some people describe as "anime" is action heavy serialized shows. However anime has clear directorial and animation distinctions that go way past that. What do you think? Should these shows be considered "anime"?

Yes. It hinge entirely on assuming they're isn't REALLY any definition of what anime is, and pretending anime can't mean different things on different sides of the Pacific.

His whole argument seems to be based on subjective emotions - if you're in the mood for an anime and you watch Avatar or Voltron LD or Oban Star Racers or whatever, you'll probably be satisfied with your viewing experience. But, like, if I'm in the mood to watch porn, but I decide to jerk off while watching This Old House, even if I'm satisfied with that "viewing experience", it doesn't mean home restoration shows are honorary pornography.

Any sensible person would look at those shows and recognize them as anime-influenced, but the only reason to argue they're actually anime in their own right is, as Geoff basically admits, solely if you're butthurt you can't discuss Wakfu on /r/anime.

Which, I frankly don't give a fuck about.

Already posted, and already explained; ATLA's style is indeed different from anime; most of the time you don't have deformed faces and huge eyes. SOME characters are more anime-like than others, but the majority looks normal. It's like saying Berserk is western because some characters are drawn like westerns.
