What's a real tragedy is that people are able to use animation as a free paycheck, which means they don't have to push the boundaries of their talents to get to someplace better. Writers and animators would try to get away with as much shit as possible under the censors' radar back in the 90s and early zed's before soccer moms protested, which is why we have such a high standard for what we want in the content of animation today, which is why we're so sour at shows like TTG and so optimistic for shows like SvtFoE.
Sonic Boom is just one of those shows that's gently pushing the boundaries when it comes to writing, and while I don't expect them to go much further with it, there's a distinct improvement in their CGI animation, so I'm hoping the next time a game is released it won't look like absolute garbage.
