After book 1 of Korra Mir was tired after getted batted around and under paid for their work (the show at the time was $200,000 per episode) so they left to do The Boondocks for it's 4th season, because of this Bryke tried to replace Mir.
The first studio they tried was Trigger but they rejected it because they wanted their first TV show to be their own (Kill La Kill) but they thanked them for considering using them by naming KLK's Mako after Korra's Mako, TMS was the second and Kenji Hachizaki was going to be the chief director, TMS rejected it as Hachizaki said after reading a script "This is just shipping bullshit" so they rejected it and instead did the second half of season 1 of Aikatsu for Sunrise instead hence why Kazuhide Tomonaga & Atsuko Tanaka were on the second half of Aikatsu, they were supposed to do Korra.
Tomonaga later said that "We can't take over for someone else, we need to be there from day one", which was another reason why TMS rejected Korra.
Bryke ended up using Pierrot of who costed $800,000 per episode and turned out worse quality then Mir due to Pierrot doing very little in house, ditching most of the work to Magic Bus (in short the Japanese version of Akom) and Actas (Girls Und Panzer) and only had 3 in house key animators, all freelanced so because of that and that Mir was cheaper Pierrot was fired and Mir was brought back with a raise (now at $300,000 per episode (until Book 4 which was at $90,000 a episode) so that Mir's animators can live a normal life).
