Yeah, because being a possessive and clingy child is being a good Master. Anakin was too immature to have a padawan and it's more to Ahsoka's credit that she didn't turn out like him and turned out more like Plo Koon than it is anything Anakin did apart from provide multiple instances of how not to act as a Jedi. Say what you want about Kanan's not being prepared for a padawan, he still stepped up to the plate and is aware of the burden, accepts the responsibility, and puts effort into overcoming his shortcomings; Anakin was too busy flaunting his snowflake status, throwing himself into battles, and fucking his illegal wife on the down-low to bother correcting his many, many flaws, and by the time he fell from grace even his most valuable trait, his loyalty, was scattered ashes.

Hardly Obi-Wan's fault. Credit where credit is due, after all. It wasn't just Anakin's predilections toward darkness, which could have been course corrected by Obi-Wan, far more importantly he had a second mentor named Sheev Palpatine who fed him stories of the virtues of vengeance, using your powers in ways the Jedi don't allow, and generally building the brat's ego and desires. In particular his desire that if the universe didn't behave the way he wanted he would use his power to force it.

Anakin was the perfect master for Ahsoka in that he was the only one who was willing to put up with her insubordination without kicking her ass to the curb -- he says that even Obi Wan would've found her a bit too much. Yoda and Obi Wan basically found the biggest delinquent padawan they had and assigned them to their delinquent Jedi knight hoping that they would learn how to mature together. Note: their plan worked, both Ahsoka and Anakin grow markedly more mature and responsible throughout the course of the show as Anakin realizes the gravity of his responsibilities towards her and impresses them on her in turn. Development that is largely reverted when Ahsoka leaves and Anakin gets super-traumatized by it

Saw Rogue One in theaters last night, oh my god, everything from when the Star Destroyers collide to the start of the credits is just utterly incredible.
The overall score was really good but not great but those last 2 tracks are just absolutely perfect for their scenes.
Fantastically handled end for our 2 leads, the shots of the explosion from above the planet is just gorgeous.

No, I only disagree with Qui-Gon imposing Anakin's training on Obi-Wan. A more seasoned and prepared Master might have been a better option. I simply do not believe that Obi-Wan was ready to take on a student and he basically admits that to Luke in the OT. The pressure of being a new Knight, the pressure of the war, and the pressue of Qui-Gon's death looming over their entire relationship was simply too many factors for Obi-Wan and Anakin to overcome; Anakin under a Master like Kit Fisto might have come out better simply because of less personal baggage.

Ultimately, though, Qui-Gon is to blame for setting up the situation in the first place, and Yoda is to blame for not telling Obi-Wan to shove it when Obi-Wan was getting all in his face about "muh promise to Qui-Gon" to train Anakin even without permission.

For someone who went to see the film without knowing what it was really about, of course it would be a surprise. I was surprised too, how well they managed to tie the films together.

He also let an entire fleet sneak up on him in Scarif. That's hilarious.

Yes. And despite Galen showing a strong unwillingness to continue the work on the project and despite having ordered his men to kill Galen's wife, he didn't place Galen under surveillance, didn't monitor Galen's comms and for some reason couldn't guess that he would be betrayed. A bit silly, eh? And there's the other mistakes that I have listed. Besides, he could have done a much better job in persuading Erso. Mention that the weapon makes war itself obsolete, make him remember the Clone wars and what happened when systems turned traitor and the galaxy burned. How many perished. And such a thing would never again happen, no. Not with Galen's help. You get the gist.

In many ways it felt that Krennic was the exact opposite kind of commander to Tarkin. Krennic seemed to think he was a master manipulator who was more clever than everyone else. However most of his schemes involved thinking he could control people with seeming acts of charity. Control Galen by pretending he was helping the galaxy. Control Poggle by offering to give Poggle back control of his planet (minus the will of the queens, of course). Control that smuggler by offering him riches.

There was absolutely no way all three of them could end up resenting Krennic and turn on him, right? Yeah, right. He also followed the principal of doing first and justifying his actions later. That might fly on some levels of the Empire, but when you risk Sheev's carefully crafted plans you have all the survival chances of an ice sculpture on Mustafar. Fortunately he mostly went through Mas Amedda's office. Could he have known Sheev was a Sith Lord? Hell no. But trying to smooth talk your way around the highest levels of power is always a dangerous game. For some reason he felt he was too slick for it to ever come back on him.

Of course in some ways he ends up emulating Tarkin too. Galen reveals he sent the secret message? Kill all the scientists anyway! That'll teach Galen - oh wait, he's dead now. Couple with Tarkin's brilliant scheme to blow up a major weapons research installation with factories but oh wait the signal got out anyway. You run the risk and sometimes the gamble doesn't pay off.

Does the new canon have any DEEPEST LORE yet? I always think it's cool when cartoons, or video games especially, have a complex backstory or lore that isn't explicitly stated, but revealed to the audience by piecing together obscure clues.

I think the new canon is perfect for that potential, laying out clues across novels, comics, and maybe even games.

Yes, actually. The new canon is really building up to the Force being a conscious element of the universe, with the Sith being anonolmies that break the Force. It's implied the Empire was the Jedi's fault for becoming soilders rather than peacekeepers and turning away from the will of the Force to bend it to their own wills, or the Republic's will, making them really no different from the Sith.

The new canon does feel a lot more focused on the actual Will of the Force, though. They even twisted the Jedi using midi blood tests to measure power levels as being a sign of to the Force they had lost their ways.

Jakku is cool for one single reason. It was the scene for the biggest, longest and bloodiest battle in Star Wars history (not shown in any medium and likely never will be), when the entire Imperial fleet met the entire Rebel fleet in an all-out, guns-blazing, last-man-standing battle royale.

Jakku became one leviathan-grade ship graveyard, with an entire economy being born only around salvaging. It's hilarious, decades worth of jobs for several hundred thousand beings, doing nothing but sifting through debris and the bones of dead imperial officers and rebel scum.

The closest I could relate it to is the two stars making "waves" that if they match up right would end up pushing and pulling the other bodies around them, which is a theory I've seen for some of the big ass gas giants that have been seen being closer to their stars than Mercury is to ours.

Regardless, if the system is stable, there's little reason to think that a planet wouldn't be able to survive in it, though it's doubtful that it could ever have any life. Pluto's moons orbit points outside of their centers as well, some of them perpendicular to their orbit of Pluto.

Jyn obviously couldn't be an alien because how could we humans ever relate to a main character who's not a pretty young lady who don't need no rebellion.

The guy who's name no one will ever remember couldn't be one either, because then we wouldn't have been able to sympathise with his plan to kill Galen Erso, or his final moments with Jyn.

Bodhi needed to be human because the empire wouldn't have alien pilots. Though as a character he was A BIG FUCKING WASTE WITH ZERO CHARACTERIZATION until the last 5 minutes of his screentime.

And then there's the two guys in there only to appeal to the chinks. Throw them out, have a force-sensitive alien of some kind. A hammerhead snail, a fly-face noodle-pouch-mouth guy, even a rodian. Yes, give us a female rodian who's not a villain!

But no. Just humans in various shades of brown and yellow.
And a robot channelling Joss Whedon.

the Flame trooper is pretty bad ass, and the FO normal trooper is pretty nice.

I still have no idea why the RO troopers all have completely different armor from everything else.

I know someone is going to say, "They don't want to die therefore any price is acceptable," but I cannot imagine any Sith willing to accept perpetual imprisonment especially when they can't further their goals of ruling everything. It would require a Sith to accept an eternity trapped from what they crave most and would therefore be a never-ending hell.

Althoug we're still not quite sure what they are, at least the Nightsister wraiths were bound to a place of worship and serve the sisterhood. Devotion to the organization in death as a self-sacrifice to their sisters sounds like something they would accept. A Sith? Not so much. Hell, you couldn't even pass yourself off to other Sith as a guide to knowledge. What Sith would accept being ruled over by a haunted trinket? They'd rip the knowledge out of you or just destroy you.

Yeah, the thing people forget is that a big part of the reason Sith tend to fear death is because it means losing their power, since they place value only on what they can obtain and what power they can wield. Being stuck in a prison forever, aware of having lost everything and with no hope of ever regaining your power or even improving your situation in any way would probably be a fate worse than death to them.

My favorite is BB-8, they touted the practical puppet and how it really works, and JJ actually intended to use the puppet for a majority of the movie and then found that whoops, the puppet can't actually do half the shit he needs it to do and can't actually move all that well. So he ended up using either an all-CGI one or needed CGI assistance for a majority of BB-8's scenes.

I don't know that much about it and I kinda like the ship design. It also has an interesting method of killing stuff, that could be worked into a decent enough plot. Might as well have used this thing over Starkiller and just made it hard to find because it's small or something.

I can see why Pablo is irked. The movie did a horrible job defining all the important stuff and just left the conflict an overly simplified by the numbers plot that unfortunately he cut almost wholesale from the Original Trilogy.

It's actually kind of sad imagining JJ and Kasdan patting each other on the backs as if they'd fixed Star Wars forever from the darkness Lucas left it in.

See in Episode 2 he was frustrated that he was still a padawan.

But by the time we see him in TCW he's been a Jedi Knight for a year and he considers himself an equal to Obi-Wan. So he's more chill now because there's no frustration.

But noticed how as the war goes on, he starts to display those negative traits he has again. Having Ahsoka as an apprentice also sets up the goal of being a mastet and being on the council.

When she left he was pissed both at the council and Ahsoka because that torpedoed his plans of being a master. Once again Obi-Wan is superior to him.

This comes back to haunt him when he's put on the council but not made a master.

Plus, I feel like the show did a good enough job to depict him as he was during the battle of Coruscant in Episode 3.

I think they were afraid of a backlash after how many people complained about politics in the prequels, but we didn't need whole scenes of senate discussions. ANH did just fine having a few lines of dialogue here and there that fleshed out the setting, they don't go into too much detail but you at least know where each side stands. TFA couldn't even manage that.

That's the problem. Evil tyrannical empire versus brave rebellion is a very simple plot. It doesn't exactly need a huge run-up to figure things out.

It's not that hard. The Resistance is basically an illegal PMC. The New Republic is shattered, but still exists. The First Order is advancing, but still an outside force, instead of standing government. FO is also something closer to a theocratic fundamentalist regime from hell compared to the Empire's bureaucratic behemoth with pretensions of legitimacy. There's a lot they can still do to make the conflict more than just Rebels vs. the Empire 2.0.

With what Pablo has been saying, I'm starting to think that even Lucasfilm basically sees TFA as the necessary evil. We'll get that out of our system, please the majority that just wants the OT wankfest and once we'll get them on the board, we can start putting the real work in. They basically told JJ to make what he makes best - a crowd pleaser - before doing their own thing.

It's all about getting the goodwill of the normies. They could make something radically different and we'd eat it up, but the general audience? Nah, just look what people like RLM are saying about Rogue One.

I don't mind the NR being ineffectual. It really makes a lot of sense. First off not everyone would be so keen to immediately trade their freedom from the tyranny of the Empire to join a new galaxy wide super government. Then people who do would be worrying about repeating the same mistakes that lead to the Empire in the first place.

Not only would you end up with a lack of strong central government but most of the people involved would have wildly varying ideas on how they thing things should be run. To top it off the FO is at least a bit smarter than the Imperial Remnant in that they're mostly in hiding and attacking the NR through subterfuge, corruption, and even terrorist attacks (not that the FO fully appreciated that last one)

Ideally they should all start with the same skill level, but they don't all have identical experiences, even through training. There's more factors that go into them than just having the same genes, which is also why clones end up having a lot of personality variations.

Even if there was, by the rules of grammar it was the victory of that particular fleet from that particular hidden base. Hardly applies to every rebel cell everywhere. Besides, I hate to burst your bubble but we know Thrawn loses. He's supposed to track down and destroy the Rebels. A Rebel Alliance still forms.

Whatever victories he finally manages to win he still loses at his ultimate goal.

After he destroyed the base the job is pretty much done for him.
Even if Thrawn planned to wipe out all the rebels - After that some imperials might want him to fuck off so they can take over again.

Or at least that's how I look at it. So it makes sense that clones in a setting like SW might as well be different people that just look alike.

I would actually argue against this - but only to a certain extent. Who you are naturally depends on nature and nurture. If they have the same DNA they largely share the same nature (to the exclusion that the Kaminoans have altered the DNA and even appear to have either altered some clones experimentally to see if there are beneficial changes or there is a rate of mutation that ends in 99 and the members of Clone Force 99; we just don't know at what rate these aberrations are generated). At the very least Yoda makes a point that all clones are unique unto the Force. They are truly unique individuals as far as it is concerned. I imagine the Kaminoans would disagree, however. Exactly when clones began diverging I don't know. I suppose it also depends on when they started training with outsiders, the bounty hunters and so on. That kind of influence would certainly help spread the changes.

Wasn't precisely Disney's fault. There were a number of reasons the show was shuttered. Losing George was the big reason. They say they didn't feel it right to continue the show without him. However Pablo has also told us that the show had lost its primary demographic. We can see the viewership was still high based on reported ratings but they weren't replacing the younger viewership at the preferred rate as kids aged out of that demographic.

Since Lucas was planning on Sequels even without a sale I'm not sure he'd have kept putting so much money behind TCW. There is no way they couldn't begin Sequels without diverting resources, including staff and funding.

If it helps I was basing my certain point of view less on the science (that was just my justifications) and more on an observation that I didn't really get into. When we first see the GAR in Attack of the Clones they are an extremely precise, well oiled fighting machine. Their movements are incredibly choreographed as they march in formation. They may as well be battle droids.

Jump to Revenge of the Sith and The Clone Wars, yes they are still a professional fighting force. They still have discipline and regulations, but they are also far more informal. Of course marching in formation is something real world soldiers learn, and we seem Stormtroopers in formation. BUT Lucas is very much a man of vision and visuals. I cannot help but feel that this change was intentional. When we first see the clones they ARE rather like battledroids. Same boxy formations. The moment we see them under Jedi command they start to lose a lot of that. By the later series they're undeniably individuals.

I do think there were mechanisms, especially in their training, and in the intention of the Kaminoans that they not act like individuals even if they were meant to be more independent and creative than droids. But I can't prove that, just as I cannot prove what Lucas intended. I DO think what we saw was very much by design and intended to show how the clones became individuals thanks to the Jedi, because it adds a level of horror to the ultimate betrayal of the clones (who were themselves betrayed by Sidious). It's just my 2 credits. I tend to focus on the mechanism for why I think this than the observation part because it's weaker. It's more about how it would make this a better story if it were true, but that's all opinion. In the end I guess that's really all it is.

Then again, this is the universe where a "chip" can make all Clones throughout the galaxy suddenly turn on Jedi with the flick of a switch. I'm going to file this more into the 'fantasy' than the 'science' part of Star Wars.
