>>88952260What is it that everyone with power wants?
>more power.Gems get broken and shattered. They need to replace their population, and that takes certain kinds of planets. But those planets are of limited resources. Thus, they must expand to maintain their civilization. Humans use renewable resources to reproduce; gems need non-renewable resources. So gems need to expand to survive.

More likely, the war was a turning point for the empire - it's been in 6000 years of decline ever since. Declining population, technological advancement slowed, limited resources, poorer quality gems created; it all points to a stagnant empire. Another 6K years and it might just collapse all on its own.
The show is heavy on the authoritarian Vs. libertarian theme. From what we've seen, Earth gems are big on libertarianism while all the others are massive authoritarians. All the HW gems who joined the rebellion had reasons for doing so. But it seems all the gems are susceptible to the libertarian message.
It seems that the diamonds haven't figured out that to end the rebellion, they have to end the message itself. They haven't wiped out all the quartz. And look at what we found on the orbiting zoo - all the amys were pretty laid back and not much into following orders.
Earth could be source of a viral meme that threatens to destroy the empire. The rebellion might be just a symptom of this. Which would be another reason why YD wants earth destroyed.
