I haven't read Gruenwald, your summary sounds interesting, but a good idea can fall completely flat with a bad execution.
Consider Dredd: he's a ridicolous parody of fascistic societies all right, but there's some depth to it, there's at least an attempt to do something more than just building a strawman and laughing at it.
