I'm pretty sure it predates Easter of 2011, but I think that's when it became a yearly thing.

Surely it was my first story time and we had tiny scans for issues 7-10 and so it caused me to buy them and do my own scans. All the files have a modification date of August 2011.

Oh the pain of being European and missing the last part of the storytime.

Still, I want to thank you "guy who does the thing" for storytiming Serenity every year. It's quickly become one of my favourite Christmas rituals, and I feel like you don't get enough credit for providing all of us anons with this great comic.
I want to thank >>88682088 as well for providing some of the better scans for the later chapters, all of this wouldn't be possible without you.

I think that's the point. None of the original bible kids ever had their faith tested, even if there's a few token references to bad times in Derek's past. Serenity's the only one that struggled to find and maintain her faith, and by the end of the comic she's clearly a much better person (and stronger Christian) as a result.

I think without the Bible group Serenity probably would have had an epiphany/turnaround on her own after hitting rock bottom imo

That's literally how every religious group works. It's about trapping you in guilt, peer pressure, and ultimately just bullying. All in order for the flock to lose their sense of self and become easily controlled sheep.

I think the book would've needed some chapters where the bible thumpers get into serious trouble (tricked or cheated into something life threatening or heavily criminal), and Serenity's street smarts is the only thing that prevents them from actually falling into the trap.

Like, the jesus rave part could've had her identifying the dealers or something like that.

Or something more serious, where an adult cheats them out of money or so, and she's the only one level headed enough to figure it out. But then, that would probably end up too much like a Scooby Doo episode.

From reading the e-mails, I had the feeling that later chapters were supposed to give more depth to the other issues, but we never got to see those. Right now it feels incomplete because it is incomplete. Sadly, we're never going to see what other ideas Buzz had for the church group.
