I find the Baby Groot thing so basic. I get teens and 40 year old women love that, but why are we stuck with Baby Groot for a whole movie? In the first movie Groot grrew a flower for a little girl. I want to see more of that Groot, not something to sell toys.

Between Ant-Man, Civil War, Doctor Strange, and this, it feels like Marvel, with their comedy, is now being a bit more adult.

Now that Marvel Studios is separate from Marvel Entertainment, they might actually let directors do what they want. This film looks campy, but in a good way. Not campy like Raimi Spider-Man. Campy like Winter Soldier, Civil War, or Star Wars. All-out nonsense, taken seriously in-universe. In Doctor Strange, for example, they literally said "Open...YOUR EYE!" and "Forget everything you think you know." And played it straight. I like shit like that, I just wish the films were a bit more serious.

Yeah, he wanted to fuck her, but then he wanted to fuck anything with two legs and a vaginia between them.
Only scene that really sort of went in that direction was when he rescued her from the vaccum, but the rest of the movie never did anything with that.

While occasionally reaction is mixed like Ultron and Dark World, they don't put the studio into full blown panic mode like what BvS clearly did to SS. Marvel acknowledged they weren't quite as good as previous movies but it didn't make them make huge clusterfuck edits and completely ax someone as big as the Joker from an entire movie. Well except Banner from Civil War I guess, though that's likely because Hulk is just too big to be on a side of the conflict.

They literally forced Favreau to make Iron Man 2 into an Avengers prequel, which caused him to leave Marvel until very recently. They also lost the director to Thor 2 in the middle of production and had to bring in Joss Whedon to completely rewrite scenes while filming. Then there was the whole Edgar Wright fiasco. Quit pretending like Marvel doesn't have their problems. The only reason the DC movies get blown out of proportion is because of the characters they're dealing with. Everyone's got their opinion on how Batman and Superman should be handled.

What's been reported about the plot so far.

>Pretty much completely standalone.

>Opens a few months after the first one, with the Guardians of the Galaxy basically working as heroes-for-hire. That's why Groot is still a baby.

>The opening scene is them dealing with that tentacle monster, which is an extradimensional beast.

>Afterwards they're hired by Ayesha (Elizabeth Debicki), one of the Eternals, for an important job. The Eternals are a race of ancient god-like aliens. Sylvester Stallone and Sharon Stone are also playing Eternals. Quill has some bad blood with them.

>Yondu is betrayed by one of his men, Taserface, who seizes control of the Ravagers and decides to go after the Guardians. As it turns out, the Kree Empire has placed a hefty bounty on their heads over killing Ronan.

>At some point, Yondu, Rocket and Baby Groot are captured by the Ravagers, while Quill, Gamora and Drax end up finding Ego, who turns out to be Quill's father.

>Ego is allegedly also one of the Eternals and isn't a planet per se, but a cosmic force that inhabits a planet and gives it life. He also can take a human form, and has once done it and seduced Quill's mother, leading to Quill being born.

>Quill also meets Mantis, who is a "willing prisoner" in Ego's surface and allegedly his half-sister.

Accuse me of console wars all you want, but this is a prime example of how DC fucked up Suicide Squad. Using Bohemian Rhapsody was a blatant attempt at making their own OOGA CHAKA, but the trailer completely sucked compared to this one.

What's more, they used a Queen song that literally everyone knows. BR will never be thought of as "that song from Suicide Squad." But "Hooked on a Feeling" will be known by tons of people as "that song from GOTG" every time it's heard.

I suspect the same from this movie.

The Mahvel films do what they set out to do. Well, the ones I've seen do. They're funny at times, they're gripping at times, they have fleshed out characters with coherent arcs. They're great deal more engaging than the ACTUALLY generic action films that were popular before - shit like xXx and Bad Boys 2 Battle:LA and shit (do you younglings even remember that shit? That's the face of the truly generic action flick).

I can watch most of the Marvel movies and root for their characters and care, at least somewhat, about what's going on. I can't say the same for WB's fetid abortions.

I bring those truly great films up to counteract the ridiculous shit WBfags constantly spout about BvS being some incandescent masterpiece. Look at those films if you want to see actual symbolism, actual experimental filmmaking, actual risk and reward. Do not pretend that BvS and MoS and their like are anything but the blandest, shittiest, most banal tripe possible. They don't even have the gall to accept what they are and be good at at it - everything that could be good is buried under mountains of pretentious dross because Snyder thinks that's how you make a good film. BvS and its like aren't quite so bad that they're fun to watch. It's in the truly sore spot of the film without redeeming qualities, good or bad. It's a movie that is painful to watch on account of how highly it regards itself. It has nothing to say, no substance, but it delivers its absolute nothing with the pretense of it, trying to dazzle with empty symbolism and generically competent composition, trying constantly to distract from the fact that there is simply nothing of worth anywhere in the film.

That shit only works when the actors and director are immensely talented and work well together.

Tongue-in-cheek stuff like most of Marvel (especially GotG) doesn't require such a high level of quality to even be barely passable- they can get by with not the best.

This. So fucking hard. /co/ is full of hate right now, funding threads where anons talk about stuff they like is very rare. In fact last week there was a thread about Rebirth and an anon had mentioned that he didn't care for the current Superman ongoing and preferred the Renew Your Vows ongoing instead, naturally the other anon disagreed, but rather than the discussion devolving into shitposting, the anons just kind of talked about what they liked from each of the comics and had a really civil conversation. Wish we could get more of that around here these days.

Nah, they already did a sacrifice last movie. It is best this time if the nuke ended up not working as intended, and then they used it for a completely different purpose by accident. Remember, the first plan, the one they tell the audience, always fails. No exceptions.
