Hey sorry for bugging you from /K/ and just started to get into Punisher and I noticed when around other superheroes (Captain America, Batman, Spider-Man, etc) there is a certain animosity towards him. For Captain America is it because they fought in diffrent wars (Vietnam, WW2) or is it other shit with him killing people. Also general punisher thread.

Sorry if I start something literally first time I have ever been on this board.

Because there's a difference between self-defense/war and cold-blooder murder, which is what Frank does.
The goal of cops/soldiers is to neutralize an active threat, and sometimes killing is necessary to do it. Frank's objective is killing, he won't arrest people, he won't accept surrender, he'll just kill you.

That's not the point. It's a moral issue.
Take the OP's pic. What would a cop do in that situation? He'd pull out his gun and tell the villains to surrender or he'll shoot, if they don't comply, he'll shoot. If the bullets aren't fatal but the threat has been neutralized, they'll let the criminals get medical attention.
Frank just shot them without saying anything even though they weren't posing a threat at the moment.

Not jaywalkers and pot smokers. But most of the people Punisher kills are hardened killers themselves. In real life I wouldn't support Punisher-like behavior by cops or vigilantes because innocent people would die. But Punisher is a comic book hero, he is able to kill exclusively guilty, evil people with no innocent casualties. It takes suspension of disbelief but so do all Marvel heroes. So in this fictional world where this is possible I endorse it.

There's been at least two Jigsaws and yes, they come back.

In fact a whole lot of people Frank killed came back during Dark Reign, and many of them stayed back.

In effect, since in the case of Jigsaw, Jigsaw II was explicitly created by Frank's actions, he has a negative net effect on the reduction in the number of criminals. That is to say, he created more than he's actually dealt with. As far as non-cape criminals go, he has zero appreciable effect on their numbers or the operations they run - he doesn't tackle the causes of their crimes and thus the power vacuum he creates simply encourages new criminals, unknown to Frank or the authorities, who have a grace period in which they operate with impunity until they are discovered.

Frank Castle is just a serial killer who's MO happens to be of some benefit to society.

He doesn't care about people, he doesn't care about anyone innocent, and he just sees everyone as a potential target and not a human being.

Punisher won't allow copy cats to do what he does, not because he believes he's the only one who should bear the burden but because it'll just lessen how many criminals he can kill.

I bet all the innocent people he's left in his wake were all either traumatized, committed suicide or even became criminals themselves.

I'd love to see someone actually put all his work in front of him, show him all the shit's he's done and exactly why none of it mattered.

All Frank has ever done was feed his own blood lust, and it's actually terrifying since criminals do actually reform. Bad people can become good people if they actually do the work. Rehabilitation is much better then having a bullet in your head.

Of course this is the Marvel Universe where your not allowed to rehabilitate, or become a better person because you'll just get retconned by the next writer.

Frank Castle isn't a hero or even a vigilante. He's a psychopath feeding his addiction on people that no one else will bother to help.

Only if Frank started killing people in Mega-City One. Anywhere else and Dredd would totally be okay with Frank bringing some semblance of order to what he sees as a chaotic and disorderly world. Frank has an unbreakable resolve and an iron will, just like Dredd. He's the kind of man Dredd respects, even if he disagrees with him.

Personally, I think Dredd would be a little lenient in sentencing because of this, and settle for banishing Frank to the Cursed Earth- set him loose in the world he belongs to.

The thing with Frank is, that he's an insane murderous asshole, who is only slightly tolerated because he spends most of his time murdering people who are nominal "bad guys".

There are only two differences between him and that 90's edgelord the Scourge of the Underworld: One, he was never caught, and two, the Scourge never deliberately went after Spiderman.
Punisher has.
At least once.

The man is about as murderous and insane as Norman Osborne at this point, and lest we forget Norman is the craziest motherfucker in Spidermans rogues gallery, and that is a gallery that includes amongst other things Carnage.

So, the reason why nobody likes that asshole is because they know that the line between villains like Bullseye and heroes like Daredevil in his rules of engagement is only defined by a set of morals that only make sense to Frank.
They also know that Frank is a man capable of rationalising the most APALLING shit on his one man crusade.
And lastly, he's also one of thos assholes that thinks he's right and everybody else is wrong.
He could be gunning down schoolchildren who MIGHT have a world ending disease and he'll still think that it's everybody else who is wrong and not him.

He had comics coming out every single week, selling in the top 10, and moving over 100k units.

There were only a few more popular characters in the 80s and 90s.

Having him join the mob and then killing him off pissed off so much of the fanbase that his books stopped selling. He was MASSIVELY popular before that intentional mismanagement.

Ennis also never completely abandoned the antihero element, always made the character sympathetic, and always had him be ultimately right in the end.

Every writer since then just made him "le krazy le XD le upboat".

Societies necessarily put the people born into them into situations where they have very little control.
